Do any other women out there find that their allergies get more severe during their period? This happens to me. I don't know why, but I'm always sniffling and sneezing a lot more during my period. The only upside to this is that for some reason, all the sneezing seems to make the cramps not as bad.

Interesting that you should mention this....I always feel like when I get sick, 99% of the time it's when I am menstruating. It seems to lower my immune system. I'll be interested to see your other responses to this.

My sister claims that she gets a cold every time she gets her period.

Oh, absolutely! I've known that about my allergies for years. I used to get a terrible cold every single month at period time, which wasn't really a cold at all, it was allergies getting extreme. There's actually some good information on the internet about this. It's not just allergies, but many other conditions that get worse at this time, especially conditions that are worsened by stress, like irritable bowel disorder. One site I looked at said that about 1/3 of women have noticed that their allergy and/or asthma symptoms are worse just before or during menstruation. Another site did a study showing that this is related to the levels of progesterone, with symptoms getting worse as progesterone drops.

Well I am not a woman but I live with women. :) My wife was diagnosed with allergies several years ago. She was on prescription medicine for awhile. Not she just uses over the counter medicine. She had a hysterectomy so she does not have periods anymore. She never noticed any difference in her allergies when she was on her period or off. And now that she has no periods their is still no difference. Her allergies only get worse when she is outside and I am mowing the lawn or raking leaves.

I have to agree with the other poster. Now that you mentioned it I do have a tendency to either get sick or my allergies are far worse at that time. I don't know what the correlation is but I'd be curious to find out. Might prove interesting to know what it is. Perhaps then we can do something about it.

Hi Kythe42. I haven't been aware of being super sensitive during my period especially when it comes to my allergy. Hmmm I will have to watch out for this and see if it holds true with me too. Thanks for this interesting bit of info. Have a good day!
