Why do Mormons observe the Sabbath on Sunday (the first day of the week)

Ex. 20:8-11 clearly states that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week. through out history Jews have kept the seventh day as the Sabbath and that day is Saturday. Look and the vast majority of calandars and you will see that Sunday is the first day of the week and Saturday is the seventh day of the week. I can't find any text in any of the LDS scripture that says the day was changed

For every belief, there is a person who will express their idea about this most controversial of questions, as I'm sure you will find by the various responses to your discussion. The only true answer to this dilemma will be found in your own heart and mind as you search the scriptures and receive the answer. The only way you can receive the answer and know it is real will be if it is given to you from above, through the Holy Spirit. Your answer is there lonnieN. The answer is written in scripture for you to find, study, put to practice and believe. It'a a large part of what believing and having faith means. Don't rely on others to answer the question for you. You will only become more confused as you receive man's interpretation and what it means to them. Find your answers for yourself. I don't mean that to be rude. Please don't think that. I just mean if you find your answer for yourself it will have a much deeper meaning for you. It will be what you believe. You will not have to question what you believe is true. Here is a kind of riddle? If God said something and also stated it would last forever, would He change His mind? Who is Jesus? Did he say he came to change anything? What is a Jot? If man changed something to make it easier does that mean we should follow and believe in it or should we believe what God and/or Jesus said is true? Is God or Jesus someone that would lie? Does the Word of God have no effect? Are we to believe God's word or the ideas of man? The answer to all of these questions are easily found in Scripture. It won't be found in Mormonism or Catholicism. It won't be found in whether you label yourself a Baptist of a magician. The only way you will find the answers to your pressing questions is to search what you believe to be The Word of God, whether it is Old or New? One hint to the answers is this. God IS, WAS and ALWAYS will be. If you 'follow', He will lead you to Him. Be Blessed and know from whence you came.

I always thought that Monday was the First day and Sunday was the last. I guess I have found one more thing out there that I need to educate my self on. I begin my week on Monday so it only makes sense in my mind that Sunday be the day of rest.

Hi Lonnie, Well to different churches they have their own day and to my church we have this on Sunday as Monday is the start of our week not Sunday. And due to the calender then our days do change so we keep Sunday holy to remember Jesus.

Lonnie, The Sabbath is the Lord's day, set apart each week for rest and worship. In Old Testament times, God's covenant people observed the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week because God rested on the seventh day when He had created the earth. After the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred on the first day of the week, the Lord's disciples began observing the Sabbath on the first day of the week, Sunday (see Acts 20:7).

It is also interesting that it can be different from country to country. In Germany for example the seventh day of the week is a Sunday. Also in the UK. You might want to read this article http://www.fairlds.org/Bible/Celebrating_the_Sabbath_on_Saturday.html Maybe it will help you to understand
