I would like some honest answers on this topic, because people hardly say what they mean. I am concerned that this topic may not be fully explored, if someone doesn't start a discussion.
Tell me what you think about this topic, and why?? Can anyone who can produce a reputable source or authority?? If so, please forward to me.

I Don't think they should Apologize for something that our Ancestors did 100 or so years ago. I think everyone should just get over it allready. I'am Part Indian and the people took our land. The Indians got over it. Most of them. So should everyone else.
Just my Opinion.
Thanks and Have a Great Day/Night.

Thanks for your response. Have you heard in the news that VA is planning to make this apology, if it hasn't already happened. Why do you think that the State of Virginia is willing to do this if it is not important?? Is the State of VA wrong or right???

it is hard to get over it, when the same racism still affects today. this year has been horrible to be a person of color. it seems racism is going crazy in this country. hate crimes are going up, more and more cases arise from unfair prison sentencing from race discriminations. i don't BLAME slavery on anyone, but the racism that has trickeled down from slavery affects ppl of african descent every day. you may not notice it, but we do. and come on, the native american card? everybody has freaking native american in them nowadays, everybody got land taken from them. don't say "get over it" that gets me steamed

Should Va. have to apologize for slavery?
I have to add that it's not as simple as saying "Just get over it" Why not say, "Let's all try to do better in the future"? To say just get over it is almost like saying, it was just a minor offense. Wake up and smell the Coffee, anytime ur messing with another person's life or lively-hood, believe me friend, that is no minor offense and it's not something that you can just get over, not until certain laws have been changed in order to allow all people to be treated more fairly.

No, present Virginians bear no responsibility for actions of previous generations. Or if you say they should, then let the African slavers that captured an entire English village and took them slaves apologise. Let Italians apologise for Romans enslaving my forbears.
all the best urban

Well there was slavery in many parts of America during that time. Really what differece would an apology make? An apology does not change history and it does not change the present. An compensation (guaranteed work available after graduation from school, free education, equal pay, guaranteed jobs, etc) to the present people of our ancestors would be acceptable but everyone know that's not going to happen.I'm not walking around in unforgiveness about the past. I don't like what happened, but it did and an apology can not change the past.

Why should modern day people apologize for a way of life they never participated in? If you were directly involved then I could see an apology, but if it was before your time when you had no way of being there and trying to change things its not your place to apologize.

Should Virginia apologize for slavery?
Hello friend, Personally I think that an apology will do very little good. Most of the people that were involved have moved on with their lives and you'll probably never know who they were. So if indeed you feel an apology would be helpful. Who do you think the apology should come from?
