I have heard of a trend among teens that involves cutting yourself. I would like to know more about this practice. I wonder if adults are doing it too. Is this behavior associated with depression or drug abuse?? What kind of rehab will a "cutter"need? Anyone who can help, please do!!

This sounds really bizarre. Why would anyone want to hurt and disfigure themselves? I'm sorry I can't help with information. I wish I could.

Why in the world would anyone cut themselves on purpose? Is it to get someone's attention?
Anyone who does this needs serious counseling.

Hello freelancerotf I am 27 years old and a mother of a 4 year old,I have been a cutter for 11 years. I started at 14 while I was having trouble dealing with my adoption and my self imagine. I met my husband when I was 21 and since then have only relapsed twice in 6 years, but everytime I get stressed out or anxious over my daughter or my life I feel the urge to cut. My daughter has epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and delevopmental delay. Times have been rough around here and my daughter's seizures have been very draining on us all. She is a great child dispite her problems, and I know this problem is all mine.
But people who say we(cutters) are cowardly and just want attention is so false.
I can deal with physical pain better than I can emotional pain. That's why I do it.
I have seen on the show Intervention how a cutter got help.
For me it was my husband's love and understanding.
Teenagers have a hard time dealing with emotional stuff and I think that's why they do it.
It you start noticing knives go missing from your kitchen check your teenagers rooms and then talk with them. Find them some help and try not to judge the people who have to deal with this problem.
I'm telling you this because I want to help parents and people alike learn about this and help to fix it.
And for all the cutters who have responding to this I appalud you all,a cutter never wants anyone to know they do it and it is hard to talk about it sometimes to people we love let alone strangers.
