Is there a such thing as a loyal mate?

I used to be a hopeless romantic in a sense but after a few hard relationships, I'm beginning to think twice about being loyal to one particular person. I mean I think I finally understand how it works meaning that as long as the relationship doesn't seem too serious then it might actually work. I just decided to be a free spirit, it works best for me! What does anyone else have to say about it?
