only getting their news from "fake news" or "news satire" programs as opposed to possibly more reliable sources? I've heard some people say they believe it's possible, I disagree. Personally, I would imagine that in order to even understand alot of the comedy on The Daily Show, you would have to be educated to the current events. Plus, if someone doesn't know anything about the topic, you would think they might be easily misled or unable to differentiate between satire and reality?

I think that it is possible to get the basics of the news from the satire since as the old saying says "All sarcasm is rooted in truth"
As long as the person understands that it is satire and not serious then they should be able to gleen the gist of the story but not the whole story.
I hope that this make sense as it seems to to mee. Have a great day and WELCOME TO MYLOT!!!

I also agree that someone can get the basics of a story by only watching these programs but I'm not sure they could get much more than the basics without reading in-depth reports on the subjects for themself, I also believe this would apply to someone who exclusively watches fox news or only cnn, or only reads the headlines. By the way I'm applying this to those who watch these programs exclusively.
Thanks for the welcome!

I so agree as the news outlets are so white washed and biased that in order to get the real story on any situation then you would have to
1-Been an eye witness
2-Have someone that you TRUELY TRUST (someone that actually deserves your trust) as an eye witness (even then you will only get their story "His-Story"), or
3-You are the God Almighty.
Since the news outlets have such personal spins to them the above are the only way to get the real story but as an alturnative we can watch and read the several different reports including the satire as the satire gives a good sounding board to the "REAL" news, another viewpoint if you will.
Thank you for the reply and have a great day!

I agree completely. I think its a problem that people think the satirical rhetoric from the Daily Show is real. Its not a reliable news source and people that are too lazy choose it as the easy way out and then consider themselves enlightened on the issue.

I think the majority of viewers do keep themselves informed and I'm not knocking jon stewart, he isn't my problem, in fact i watch the daily show, I just have heard people say that you can get your news exclusively from these programs and be informed, and I find that to be frightning if my generation is doing this. thanks for the responses guys!

It's my experience that most the "news" we get from our "news" outlets are "Fake news" and so lacking in facts that they are almost satires of themeselves.
