Store tools in a large pail with sand and a quart of motor oil, just dig the tools into the pail with the handle sticking out. The abrasive sand will clean the tools and motor oil will provide them with a protective coating.

Yes, I have heard of this idea before and it sounds like a good tip.. I will have to do it.
