i would prefer marcos... cause when marcos was our president the peso and dollar rate is 1 is to 1(1 dollar is to 1 peso)..according to the history book that i have read... and according to the persons that i have consulted... marcos was not the problem..the problem was her wife....so i would prefer marcos as a president

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you, Marcos was not a good preseident!!! It could not be denied that at first our country was booming in his first few years as a president but as the years went by he became the most corrupt President ever... Though he was influence greatly by his wife, as a president and a man he should have not let himself be influence. If he was great, why was he pursuaded by his wife to do corrupt things? If he was great, shouldn't he have the will power to do the right thing instead of being influence and manipulated by his wife??? Yes I agree that the dollar rate during Marcos time was P1 but it is not entirely his doing, it was because almost all the world economy which contributed to dlooar rates was still very stable at that time comapred to now.... As who I would prefer, No one... we still have to wait for a good president to arrive...

Marcos was the best and Cory Aquino was the worst. It was during Marcos time that the peso was very stable. Programs were in place (housing, health, security, education, water, environment etc). Cory's regime was full of corruption down to the lowest level of government bureaucracy, power outages, kamag-anak incorporated, incompetent cabinet members, unstable government (coup d'etats), devaluation of the peso, no government program for housing, human rights violation, foolish programs like debt-swaps, etc. What can you expect from a mere housewife ?

Ouccchhh! That remark hurts! "What can you expect from a mere housewife?" That's very negative, Sir! You might be a Marcos loyalist (hope your read my post about your Marcos) but that doesn't excuse you to remark so negatively about us housewives! I agree that Cory's regime is not a bed of roses but at least SHE is not the corrupt one, SHE did not kill thousands of people, and SHE did not cause the disappearance of thousands more. No matter what you say as a Marcos loyalist, you can never change history books which names your Marcos as a dictator. Moreover, "mere housewives" can be great too. I am a housewife but put in my extra hours to volunteer for social service work in our barangay whenever I am needed. I am a mere housewife with a personal computer which I use to teach several high school students from our poor national high school who cannot afford to give this kind of education; therefore, I have helped a lot to become e-literate.
I am a mere housewife but in our community, I never turned back from the needy people specially those stricken with cancer. I am a mere housewife but because my son taught me to be e-literate, now I have joined a movement to promote good citizenship, something that a mere housewife like me can give as a legacy to my son.

Marcos had a good and complete vision for our beloved country the Philippines - to be honorable, productive, and independent. In fact, the Philippines should now be a rice-exporting country. Those who studied at UP Los Banos, at the IRRI, went back to their countries and improved their agriculture and they are now the rice-exporting countries and one is capable of donating tons of rice to the Melenyo typhoon victims which the government officials now want to monetize for obvious reasons. Marcos had laid out plans for all aspects necessary to make the Philippines move forward. We did not move forward because Cory Aquino concentrated on erasing memories on Marcos. Fidel Ramos kept on traveling. Erap stayed in Malacanang just for a short time and GMA has been very busy protecting her position and that is mainly why graft and corruption soared up high that we are now No. 1 in the list.
Cory attempted to erase Marcos from history to the extent of changing books and creating so many things against Marcos but she failed. Marcos is still the best President of the Republic of the Philippines.

You were right in some points about Marcos, Ma'am. He could have been the best president ever, if we only close our eyes to the atrocities he has done, if we could close our eyes to the despairing mothers who have lost their sons and daughters during the Martial Law days! The Marcos' regime tally of 3,257 kilings is second to Argentina's 8,000 missing persons, but it still exceeds Pinochet of Chile's deaths. Under Marcos, military murder was the apex of a pyramid of terror - 3,257 killed, 35,000 tortured, and 70,000 incarcerated. Lest we forget, Under Martial Law from 1972 to 1986, the Philippine Military was the fist of Marcos' authoritarian rule. Its elite torture units became his instruments of terror. That's a deadly verb, my dear "I think." This is a very important question and I just hope that you will find the right answer to tell your children and grandchildren when the time comes. They will always read the books or research in the Internet, and they will then ask you why you "think" it was Marcos.

Hi gemille!;) Correct me, if I'm wrong, but is this what you're essentially saying: first president=best president; Emilio Aguinaldo is the first president; therefore, he is the best president? I'm just curious. Thanks!

HONESTLY, this is a very tough question to answer because each of them has their own distinct qualities as a leader, however in my honest opinion THE BEST PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES IS YET TO COME, one who will really govern the country without a tinge of personal interest in him or her. I just hope that it come very soon that he or she can still save the country from where it is now.

I agree with your observation. Picking the best president among the current crop of presidents that we've had is like wholeheartedly accepting mediocrity. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that all our presidents, so far, have had their distinct contributions in our country, but I think one could not yet be classified as THE best because we've had no criteria to identify who is, in fact, a best president. I truly hope that we'll be able to define for ourselves, as a people, our best president, and that someone will meet the lofty standards that we'll collectively set, for our country's welfare.
That being said, though, I respectfully hold that it is quite unlikely for one who will be president of the Philippines not to have "a tinge of personal interest" because the mere fact of deciding to serve the people or satisfying his desire to serve the people is already a fulfillment of that person's personal interest. In other words, the bare fact that the person wanted to be president, for whatever reason, and that want or desire was fulfilled, obviously manifests the fulfillment of that person's personal interest and, hence, effectively exhibiting a tinge of personal interest.

I do like Corazon Aquino she is the only President that have no record of corruption. Unlike other Presidents that have been engaged to corruption or I may say that they are accused of corruption. Cory is I think the only President that have not been into corruption.

for me?none so far...why? because until now our country suffering from poverty and lots of filipinos are unemployed.yeh..? There are some little improvements and update in this they called high technologies. But then it is not enough for this days. I am not perfectionist or a judgemental person. I know being a president is not easy. It is risky and you handling a huge obligations. What i a m trying to say is mostly of them have a self interest of there power. I think HE or She should do more before i can choose and say a name for the best President...v
