Do you just let the machine get it? Do you try to pretend to be someone else? I used to answer the phone and tell them "Look I just don't have the money right now" that got old quick. Now I just let the machine get it. I know alsmost everyone has had this problem once in their life. How do you deal with it?????

I have never had to worry about this. I would be mortified if I had a bill collector call me. I made a budget with my husband when we were married and we stick to it. We pay our bills on time to avoid this situation.

Sorry to hear that your husband can't rely on steady work. I would really recommend that you try to get a budget going anyways. This way you can see exactly how much you should be putting away each week in order to pay your bills and buy groceries. We have been blesses that we now can even budget for vacations, but there were the days that all we ate was tuna noodle casserole because that is all we could afford. For us, it is essential to budget weekly instead of monthly. This way we are less apt to spend the money on something thinking that we will be able to make up for it in our next pay check. Good luck.

I'm glad you did that. My husband is a carpenter so it's very hard to budget around his job because he really doesn't have job security. Here in Michigan there aren't many houses being sold so there for he isn't working alot anymore. But I have been thinking about a budget when we get back on track.

Well, I don't receive calls because I make sure the bills are paid. Actually, I have got some bills before that I bought stuff from and they send me something like "your bill is XX months overdue..." and then I pay the bill. I probably would tell them to stop calling me and they will get money when I have it. If they kept calling I wouldn't answer the phone. Pablo

That's what I do now I just let the machine pick it up until I know I will have the money to pay them.

When you deal with a bill collector make sure you know your legal rights. Each time a bill collector called me I would tell them to stop calling me that I wanted everything in writing so they would need to send a bill to my house. I would then tell them to have a nice day and hang up. Here is a site that I found helpful when I got behind on bills. http://www.lsnm.org/consumerrights.html

i actually don't have a house phone all i have is a cell phone which they had the number too, and when i know i can't pay and i get one of those annoying collectors calling i would just let it go to voicemail but now i learned a new trick not to just get rid of those bill collectors but everyone else i don't want to talk to, you know the security features in a cell phone i just did it to where only people in my address book can get through

I check the caller ID and don't answer, when I have the money I pay it, I don't deal with the pressure. I know its their job to call but sometimes things happens and you can't pay on time, and usually for me when one thing goes wrong a series of events continue to happen which just worsens the situation, so for my piece of mind I completely ignore the calls, and pay when I get the chance.

Babyangie, Yes, my friend, I do also believe that most people have experienced this at least once....LOL I always try to call my debtors first, if I realize that the payment will be late...I do not like to wait for them to call me....that works on my nerves!! To me, it makes alot more sense for me to notify them than to sit and wait for them to call me and question why I have not paid my bill.....I establish a good working relationship that way...and it works for me!

If you find yourself getting behind...sit down with your bills and figure out a payment plan whereby you can keep current and still put something towards the "late balance"...when you call them with a plan for catching up and keeping up they are much more likely to work with you...hiding from them only makes them cautious when they do finally get ahold of you.... Hope this helps, my friend....
