TV personality Oprah Winfrey has endorsed Barack OBama in his bid for the US presidency. Do you think it will help him? Or , as some are saying, possibly hurt her ratings or "brand endorsement"? Your thoughts, please!
I'm sort of amazed she hasn't ever endorsed a candidate before. I don't believe it will hurt her ratings. I know people that have been watching her for years and respect her opinion greatly.

I honestly don't believe it will decide the election, but I believe that there will be a lot more people paying attention to his views and stances because of Oprah's backing. You can't forget, millions of people go out and read books just because she recommends them... I know a presidential candidate is not a book, but it's just amazing to me the span of influence that an individual can have. People respect her opinions, like you said, and it would probably guide more people into looking into his views and his beliefs before making a decision.
This won't get him elected, or have people spurn her and Obama, but it could have an effect that will be felt by some of the candidates.

Of all the issues involving Oprah before (including that infamous statements she said that hurt the cattle industry) I don't think this endorsement will make a difference. American people are intelligent, I'm sure, and they will vote for the candidate not solely because he or she was endorsed by someone popular. Oprah is also a voter so her endorsement is just a manifestation of her right as a citizen.
