Okay it's the mens turn I guess. I am wondering how many men actually own and use pocket watches. The type with the chain that clips to your pants and the watch sits in the "change" pocket inside of the regular poskets of pants. That pocket is actually called a watch pocket but I know I use it mostly for my change as it's easier to access my change when it's in that pocket. I actually own a couple of these watches but seldom have them with me. I haven't used either one in years and they both need repairs. One is from the 60's and the other is newer from the 80's maybe. I love the look and like the fact they actually make me feel a bit "classier" when I pull it from my pocket by it's gold chain to look at the time or relate the time to someone who's asked me wehat time it is. Are these type of watches going out of style? Are they so called watches for the "older" man? I revcall as a chil;d in the 50's and 60's most my male relatives having this gold chain hanging from their pockets and though it was cool looking. So tell me men what your take is on pocket watches. Thanks in advance also. Women whats your feeling about the appearance of a man with the watches also?

my brother owns a couple of pocket watches. He loves them! i have to say, i am a bit jealous of them myself, though they are not practical for me. i think pocket watches are a nice olf tradition, so to speak, and i think more guys should get them.

My response will prolly be the only kind you will get from a girl, Grandpa Bob.
I actually own and used to wear a pocket watch back in my horse and carriage days. I wore it, instead of a wristwatch, cause the reins would tend to catch on the watch breaking the band. I found out the true reason I got better tips wearing the pocket watch is cause it is classy and my customers liked me wearing it. On the days I didn't wear it, I got few tips. lol Therefore, pocket watches tend to make anyone a bit classier if worn with a suit or tux and I tend to admire a guy when I notice him wearing it.

My husband doesn't own a pocket watch & neither does my Father.
Interestingly, there are these cute little pocket watches made for girls. They have a cat or dog face on the front, or a beetle shape, then you open it & the clock is inside. They are designed as pocket watches for girls.
Same concept I suppose.

Personally, I can't stand wrist watches. I do own six pocket watches. To me, the old American made watches would beat anything in style and quality made anywhere else...The watches I have:
1. Grandfathers 1920 Hamilton Railroad Grade Watch, Open face, 21 jewels. Would love to replace the case...keeps better time then the seiko.
2. Hamilton 18 jewel, open face from 1910. Nice engravings. Bought that watch when I was 14.
3. Elgin 1930's, 21 Jewel, Open face. Very plain common watch that I bought along with the Hamilton.
4. Silver toned, Russian watch from the 1980s. Keeps decent time, bought this one in Turkey in 1992 because I liked the Greek Godesses on the hunter's case.
5. Silver toned, Russian watch from the 1980s. Bought this one in England in 1994. It was cheep and relatively plain, this is the one I carry on a day to day basis.
6. Westclock pocket watch from the 1950s. I can't remember where I got this one. This is my spare.
When I was younger, I really wanted to learn how to repair and make pocket watches. A distant relative was a watchmaker from the early 1800s. My oldest boy lays claim to any and all pocket watches. If I'm not careful, he'll take the nicer ones out to play!
I think the pocket watch is classy and can relay a degree of self confidence. Why? You don't have to constantly look at your wrist or the wall for time. And it sends a very clear signal to someone who is taking too much of it. Having a pocket watch also eliminates the habit of looking at the wrist when you are bored. Besides, the pocket watches last far longer then the wrist watches, PDAs and cell phones I carry. Even though the watches are with me everyday...the modern junk doesn't even last as long!

Ya know, I dont think I've seen anyone use a pocket watch in along time. That's what I got my grandpa, my boyfriends grandpa & boyfriends dad for Christmas this year. My grandparents are rich & have everthing the want. No matter what we get them they dont want it because "It's cheap looking, or not made in the USA". I always end up getting my grandpa a pocket knive or a pocket watch. I dont know if he likes them but her sure has a huge collection of them now.

My grandfather and my dad used to carry a pocket watch. I have always thought they were beautiful pieces and I wish more men would carry one, but I guess it doesn't go with the style of clothing today!
