Would you consider it littering to throw a down-to-the-filter cigarette on ground?? Are cigarette's biodegradeable?? If they are not something that can go back into the earth than why do so many smokers throw their cigarettes to the ground when they done?? Anybody have any ideas??

Of course it is! In fact, you are polluting as well as littering. Don't smoke if you have no ashtray nearby. Otherwise, use your hand.

I do not understand this, either. My mother thought that this was good for the ground, but we know now that it is not. The toxic effects of the nicotine are bad for growing things. One more reason not to smoke.

I'm not sure how biodegradable they are, but i know that the filters have fiberglass in them, which is dangerous if pets eat them. I don't know why so many people throw them on the ground, and i'm not innocent of it either, but most of the time i put it out and then throw it away later on down the road. I think it is considered littering, but not sure about that either, though i would personally deem it as that yes.

Everything on the cigerette is biodegradable EXCEPT the filter! So of course that's the part littering smokers throw!

some people's lazy.i smoke and i always hold the butts until i can find a garbage can.it looks nasty and is dangerous to animals. my mother's a butt pitcher and i always tell her to stop it.i also told her i'm not paying the fine when she invariably gets one.

You know I always wondered that as well, if it is biodegradable (sp) what does it matter. LOL Something my deceased grandfather used to say " If I did not litter somebody would be out of a job" lol

I think that it is littering. Also, depending on where you are you could start a fire! Some places in the U.S. are so dry right now that anything could set off a fire.

It is not only littering but there is a particular offense in Pennsylvania if you do it in any wildlife area because the butts are often swallowed by birds, fish and other wild life and they kill the animals. So it's definitely littering, not to mention YUCKY! LOL

Yep, it is littering. The filters don't bio-degrade, plus it just looks filthy. I think most smokers just don't think it is a big deal, same with people who spit their gum on the ground. Both are big pet peeves of mine.

I consider it littering, because that's what it is. but people who wouldn't dream of dropping a crisp packet or drinks can still quite happily throw their butts on the ground where they look messy and disgusting. of course it's littering. how can it not be.
