Gerry, a movie I didn't "get"

I usually like movies that make you think and movies you can learn from (being entertained all the while). But the one movie I looked forward to seeing that disappointed me was Gerry. It starred and was written by Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. This movie was ridiculously tiring. If anybody understood its underlying message, please let me know. Have you ever seen a movie like this one when someone had to explain the movie's message to you? If so, what was the name of it?
