What's your favorite holiday, and what's the one that you dread the most?
My favorite is Christmas. It's the day that Jesus Christ was born, first and foremost. I've always enjoyed it, but not so much anymore. I still love the lights, decorations, the sounds, the snow, but the "kid's magic" is gone for me, pretty much. That's on the commercialized note. I don't really have any family to spend the holiday with, but I still remember the day as Christ's birthday.
The one that I dread is Halloween...I've read the Celtic legends and I choose not to participate in this holiday, even though it's VERY different from the way that it used to be.

I love Samhain (Halloween to most people)
it's a wonderful feast festival, where I get to bring my family close around me as winter starts really closing in.
it's a real time to celebrate our family bond, and to remember those who have gone before us. everyone brings some food, and much of it is the tail end of what has grown in our own gardens.
as well as the religious side, the commercial side is fun too. decorating the house, making up goody bags and greeting our trick or treaters who are always excited to see what we've done for them this year.
I love Yule, and the commercial Christmas too. it's wonderful to take a moment at that dark time of the year to remember that the Sun is reborn and returning to us. Spring really is on the way, even if it seems far off. I love decorating a tree, and filling the house with lights to call back my God to warm the Earth. and I absolutely love giving presents. it makes me feel warm inside. for me Christmas is a lot like the Discworld Hogswatch. a really warm and special time. it's only right to celebrate that we've reached the turning point of the year and are heading back into the light.
I don't think there's any festival that I really dread.
oh hang on, Bonfire Night / Guy Fawkes / New Years Eve / anything with fireworks.
if the fireworks were only on that specific day it wouldn't be so bad, but you can expect about two weeks of staying in and trying to comfort my dogs who get very stressed. it's quite upsetting.
also, New Years is often a bit depressing in itself. the only thing about it I really enjoy is the fact that it is the anniversary of meeting my wonderful partner. aside from that it always feels a bit anti-climactic.

Christmas is not when Jesus was born.
It was just a convenient time for the Catholic church to replace another pagan religions holiday so it would make converting the pagan's easier.
I can't stand how the truth and history are so clouded over by this stuff.
I suppose if I had to pick it would be Passover.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but it's not just a Catholic holiday. It's true that December 25th isn't the exact day that Jesus was born, but it's the day that we, as Christians, celebrate his birth. Thank you for your response, and may God bless you and keep you.

My favorite is Christmas. I love what it stands for and attend church over the christmas season. I love the tree and all the decorations too. My favorite part is the family all coming together for meals and gathering that is the best part ever. I find every christmas brings the family closer and closer.

I love Christmas. I love the fact that you get to be with family and everyone is cheerful, plus I love snow. Winter is also my favorite season.I would have to say Thanksgiving. I know it is to give thanks fot things you have, but I just think it is a sly way for people to eat before Christmas. I think Christmas is when you should be thankful, because liek you said. Jesus Christ was born.

I'm glad to see that you still have that magic within the Christmas season. Let's not forget the real reason of Christmas, though. It's the day that we remember Jesus Christ being born in a manger. Commercialism has overpowered the true meaning of Christmas for many people.
