I think screen savers are not much help in saving computer screen. They work fine for entertainment, but keep the monitor running at total power, and waste electricity. Do you have any idea how they save the screen. What is the science behind it. I read a lot, but failed to find anything. Please share.

The reason you use a screen saver is to keep your monitor from being burnt, screen savers are always moving were as if you had none what ever was on your screen would eventually burn itself to the screen leaving a shadow of it no matter what you were actually viewing on the screen so the science behind it is to protect the screen from being burnt as to having a shadow every time you are looking at something on the screen.I hope this helps .

That is what there original use was but these days they are not needed for this as technology has advanced. You would have to have a really old computer for this to still be a problem which is why I don't use one.
Also I never use the hibernation on the computer I always shut it down completely when I am not using it.

I don't use a screen saver at all. Years ago what would happen is the picture would become imprinted on your monitor screen, so you would always see it. To stop that happening screens savers where used but technology has advanced so much that they actually are not needed but people are just used to having them on their computer.

that is true to but, actually it is because you can now have your monitor shut down after a period of time sitting dormant you can do the same with your hard drives you can have them shut down after a period of time its like hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock.

the science behind using screen saver is the other guy answered it. Now a days people are using it for entertainment. there are so many different kind of screen savers. but in actual "IT SLOW DOWNS UR COMPUTER" and i am deadly against. Adding to it, the others of shutting down harddisk and powersaver mode after 15-20 also consume lots of RAM, as it is a activity that monitors ur computer regularly, which results in slow pc. try to disable this screen saver option, u will really find a speed difference in it.
