he has big red welts coming up all over his body and is starting to scatch them. he does not seem to be sick and is still playful and eats his food. The lumps have been there for a couple of hours now and dont seem to be going away or settling down. What can i do to help him and is this a potential danger to his health. thanks

my staffy comes up in a big rash on his belly & it turns out he's allergic to grass seeds...he gets real itchy too. Maybe try pinetarsol to help soothe the itch

my staffy comes up in lumps whenever she plays in brambles. i took her to the vets and he prescribed piriton, in the sam doses that you would give to a child of the same size - weight.

If it's an allergic reaction, it may be harmful, or not. Watch for breathing abnormalities such as rapid or shallow breathing, or any wheezing sounds. Calamine lotion and other "anti-itch" (topcial) meds may ease the itch, but if it persists, a trip to the vet in is order. It may just be "hot spots" (though I doubt it), it may be a reaction to a new food, or a reaction to a plant or insect he/she came into contact with. In extreme cases, steroids may be needed to bring swelling down, etc. and anti-histamines can be prescribed/advised in case it ever happens again.
