Do you get upset when your rating goes down?

I had a 10 star rating for ages and today it went down to a 9, from 95/100 to 93/100. I always get a little disappointed when it goes down lol even though it doesn't really mean anything. You always try to think of what replies you have given that people might not have liked. Has yours gone down? I want my blue star back! lol

Actually juicemilk I have long given up on trying to work out how myLot gets/calculates what our star rating should be. Personally I think that the star rating is a whole lot of crock. LOL Does it really mean anything to anyone? I suppose it might to some members, but I really work on the principle that if I like a discussion and can say something, then I will respond but if not then I just let it go. I have a couple of friends who have very high rating (i.e. the number of postings they have made) but their rating is rather down a bit. Why I have no idea and I can see nothing wrong with their postings. Maybe they are a little brief but on the whole they are not and none of them would I consider to be offensive, or at least of the ones that I have read that is. However, having said that I can also understand that you will go back in your own mind as to what responses you have made, whether they might have offended someone etc. The thing to remember is that someone can give you a negative rating for what appears to be no apparent reason. If for example you started a discussion, someone can rate it as a negative but not even make a response. That is one of the things that I find wrong, but they are also the rules. Personally I think it would be much better if a person has to give a reason why they are giving someone a negative. I think that would be a fairer way to go, although of course if could mean that nobody gave negatives because it would take more time, or more likely that it would slow the system here on myLot down to less than a crawl. Good luck juicemilk, and I do hope that you soon see a nice blue star once again. In the meantime I have given you a positive rating for this discussion. :)

Thanks Ossie! :) It is a bit of a weird system really, I meant it's not like when I look at a discussion and think that the posters rating is low so I won't post there. But on the other hand it's nice to know that people appreciate your responses, so I guess it's a bit of an ego thing lol I only mark negatives if the person is deliberately being abusive or if the response has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, and it's obvious the poster is just trying to get as many posts done as possible

If anyone can tell me how mylot works it would certainly be wonderful. I sometimes wonder if even mylot admin knows how this system works. I was just reading through some posts earlier on and noted the rating for one member. Okay, so I made a post and then found the same member again and their rating had dropped by 2 points. Now that was in less than 2 minutes, and maybe there was a reason but I have seen it happen a couple of times before. My star rating has been at a 9 for a while now, but I don't think it means all that much anyway. I don't think I get any extra money for it or anything like that. It would be nice to be a 10 I suppose, but when people are allowed to give others negatives without having to say why, it is always a risky business. What is someone has a grudge against another person? There is no reason why they cannot give them all negatives if they want to. Hope you get your blue star back soon, which must mean you will need lots of best responses and positives for a little while.

Lol I am in the same boat as you are in. Mine was at a 10 for a long time, and it dropped to a 9 and has been at a nine for a few weeks now..it's very sad! Lol but like you said, it doesn't really mean anything, so I can't get too upset. What do you mean the 95/100 to 93/100? I have never seen anything like that. Could you please explain to me what that means? Anyways, I understand completely what you are saying! Lol I always wonder as well what I did to make it go down. Oh well, it happens! Good luck on getting your 10 back!

lol...i didn't even realize until now that there were ratings i mean i saw the "+ -!" but i juss kind of ignored them well i guess i'll be using those features even more i think if your rating goes down, ppl would be upset yes, but you should know the facts first though (although you can't get the facts) because people have different views, and some may say that they don't like the discussion and give you a bad rating --- this would be reasonable BUT if your rating goes down because of those mean users who juss give negative ratings bcuz they feel like it --- unreasonable but ya...everyone should be upset if they go down... btw...what's the highest rating?
