Hi friends..... I have been researching quite a lot on this and thought I would let you all know about the very fact that "Your very own car could be your grave".
Yes......that is true. Many people....... especially in the summers, would like waiting inside their car coz they think the outside heat is too much to handle. These people find more comfort inside their car.... keeping their car engine running.......... they would turn on the Car Air Conditioner, close all the car windows and doors and wait inside the car....... some people also like to sleep with the car engine running, the A.C on and all the windows closed.
This discussions is all about "Carbon Monoxide". Though, the technology has advanced quite a lot and our automobiles do not emit the same proportion of Carbon Monoxide that they used to do say 40 years back, but till now we have not yet have an automobile engine which boasts of nill Carbon Dioxide emmission.
If you are inside the closed windows/closed doors of the car......with the car engine running...... their is all possibility that the Carbon Monoxide that the car exhaust emits....can seep inside the car. This can happen in so many ways....... mostly if the rubber sealing of your car is not good.......more so, if the rubber sealing on the boot of your car is not fine and broken. Carbon Monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas. And you would not even realize that your are breathing it.
They call Carbon Monoxide as the silent killer. You will not even realise that you are under the effect of the gas and you will die a painless....... silent death. You will feel asif you are going into a deep sleep........ never to wake up again.
So, the next time you have to wait inside your car. Okie, you can keep the car running and your car A.C on...... but, do open the windows of the car in between. Let some fresh air come in and ventilate the car from time to time. And, you can do that at periodic intervals.
Also ensure that your car is tuned properly. If you car is ill-tuned, it will produce more Carbon Monoxide.
Carbon Monoxide is basically a produce of incomplete burning of Hydrocarbon based fuels (petrol, Diesel). It results from incomplete combustion of fuel most likely to occur when air-to-fuel ratios are too low in the engine during vehicle starting when air supply is restricted ("choked"), when cars are not tuned properly, and at higher altitudes, where thin air reduces the amount of oxygen available for combustion.
You should bear in mind that vehicles tend to give off more carbon monoxide emission during the colder months because more fuel s required in order to start and run the engine during cold weather.
Do take precautionary measures and be safe.....towards you........ your family....... and others..... :)

I will have to be careful about this. Thanks! My husband always puts the AC on in summer and of course he closes the windows to trap the cool air inside the car. Even in winter he uses the AC to heat the car. I have never thought of the carbon monoxide and thank you for pointing this out for us. I agree our car can be our grave... I will spread the word to my family and friends.

Thanks for spreading the word around. The news has already been reported some time back in my country but essentially, it's still good stuff.

This of course is a possibility, but with the price of gas now I don't think I would consider it an option. If it was to be a short wait then thats ok but for anything longer than 2 or 3 minutes I would get out myself and shut the car off. I have had to wait for long periods of time before and I never have the vehicle running.
