On E-Gold's Indictment

I'm sure you've seen the alert informing us that e-gold may no longer be a viable option for transmitting funds. This is due to the fact that it has been indicted for criminal offenses in the U.S. I'm a new user and admittedly have no idea what to make of it. All I know is that Paypal is not available in my country and that e-gold offers similar services, only with the assurance that the account is backed up by gold that is stored somewhere in the world. Do you think that it is still safe to use e-gold's services given that is being linked to money laundering and supporting other illicit businesses?
