you'd better think again if you really need to have one. i hope that you will make the right decision. after having had one name, there will be more to follow.

I'm 40 years old, and dont have a tattoo. However, my mom is 62 and recently got a tattoo on the calve of her right leg; too cool. Some family members felt like my mom is too old, but to me that's nonsense. She came home so happy and ecstatic about the tatoo. She was giddy the whole week. My personal opinion is that you can get a tattoo at any age...If you are atleast 18 years old....no big deal!

I think for some things it takes getting use to but overall you are so right. As long you are 18 or older age shouldn't matter with tattoos. Your mom proved it and don't forget that it's never to late for you to get a tattoo as well as anyone else. thanx for the comment

I think that is so cute getting symbols of your kids names added to your tattoo is a great idea. I thought about doing something for my daughters but I haven't figured it out yet!!! SO I'll keep thinking about it. Thanx for sharing:)

My very first one was when I was 15, by a friend with a needle and some India ink. On my 18th birthday I got my first professional one. I now have a total of 10, and I love them all. Most are original artwork, either done by me or my tattoo artist (he's the only person I allow to do this to me). And each one has its own special meaning. I am now 26, so most of this has happened in 8 years, and I don't regret any, not even the first one. There are no words, english or otherwise, because I feel you always end up regretting words. The only exception I will ever make this, is when I have children, their names will go on my back, around one I specifically designed to look good with names. I have a good, very professional job working for a bank, and these don't hinder me at all. I was smart, and made sure all were placed in a way it's easy to cover them up with normal business attire. But, out of work, in shorts, flip-flops, and a tank top, I get to show off most of them... I love it, and I'm nowhere near done. I'll let you all know when I get the next one!!

I was about 25 or 26 years old when I got my first one and then there was a 3 year gap before I got my second, and since then I've gone on a mad spree getting them done. I'm planning on getting another piece of my horror movie sleeves done next month at the Atlanta Tattoo Convention. I don't know if there's an average age but people should definitely wait until they are entirely sure of what they want thatt way they won't regret it later.

I agree I don't think that it is a good idea for people to get tattoos until they are entirely sure of what they want. If not I think that it could be a mistake for the rest of their lives. it sounds like you really have an admiration for tatoos. I think that is awesome! I hope that you have a great time at the Atlanta Tattoo Convention. I would love to hear about it.

You really didn't wait huh..LOL I was one of those poeple who talked about it, but put it off two years before I actually got it. Ay who says that a cat isn't lady like.. Cats always seem to have a feminine quality to them. So I say they are lady like, but who cares what others think right??!! My first tattoo said AMOR with a butterfly under it. The reason I choose this is because it represented life to me and family. It's a long story..... But I think I want another one. I'm just scared because I want it on my lower back and I've heard it hurts!!! So ouch, my first tattoo didn't hurt, so.... that's that

i will never allow any tattooing to be done on me. in my family, tattooing or getting a tattoo at all is banned. i want and i prefer that we keep our skins clean, stay them at their best as they were right from the very beginning, unless there is a necessity for anything to be done and for valid reasons.

I got my first tattoo on my 30th birthday, and have gotten 4 more tattoos in the 2 years since then. I actually had the basic idea for my first tattoo around the time I was 20, but waited 10 years before I got it. By that point, I definitely knew that it was something I wanted permanently on my body.
Around here, I think the average age for people to get their first tattoo is probably between 18-21. This is a college town, and a lot of the college kids will go and get a tattoo (or piercing) as soon as they are legal adults.

I was around 16 or 17 years old when I got my 1st tattoo and I just got my 2nd tattoo last month at the age of 22. Now I have tattoo fever and the only thing that is stopping me from getting tattoo #3 is the lack of funds at the moment. I love tattoos and I think they are a beautiful form of expression.

i was 23 and my husband did it on our 2 year anniversary. He put a boquet of yello roses on my leg i know yellow means friendship but that is my favorite color. Anyway I give tattoos well i used to i am breaking from it right now. And most of the people that i gave tats too were just 18 or a little older. Second popular age was 16, parents would bring in kids for their bdays.

I got my first tattoo when I was eighteen, it was actually on my eighteenth birthday. I got a little nickname on my lower stomach. Than when I was nineteen I got another tattoo of stars. When I was 20 same thing lol Last year was the first birthday I didn't get a tattoo. They are so addicting, people have always said that but I never believed them til I got my first one and wanted a another one as soon as I got outta the chair.
