My son turns 18 this weekend and is graduating on Mother's Day (the day after his birthday)!! They said when he was born and after open heart surgery at 5 months of age he wouldn't live to see 12, let alone if he did he wouldn't graduate from high school!!
He's doing it and doing so much more than the doctors and educators believed he would accomplish!! My son is truly a blessing and I wouldn't change him for anything!!
I've met many people who have the blessing of having a child with Downs and other special needs who don't even recognize the gift of wonder before them. I have met a lot of others who do realize this gift.
I seek to hear the stories of triumphs and challenges faced by those rearing children that society says will never make it because they are limited by a medical standard of normal. My son is truly proof that medical science has its limitations in understanding and I thank God for this gift and His mercy!!

What a beautiful story! Congratulations to your son for graduating and beating the odds. I am sure that having you as his parent is part of the reason for his success. Bless you both.
