I went shopping today and bought my daughter a big bag of string cheese because it was on sale. I got to the parking lot and she wanted one and when I opened the bag I seen the expiration date was 4/18/2007! I was so mad I went to customer service and got my money back because all the string cheese was expired!
Has this every happened to you? How long did it take you to notice????
Your thoughts?

I usually check those expiration dates on stuff if it is on clearance to see why it is on clearance. As i work in a grocery store, I know that a lot of times, we sell items that are outdated by a few days but I don't think we sell much past that.
As the consumer you need to watch what you buy. some stores don't watch for expiration dates as closely as they should and you can purchase expired items right off the shelf. Be careful and protect your loved ones by checking those dates!

I have had this happen sadly. I saw a whole rack of home fresh bread one time and had bought some, and when I opened it from the "hot foil" and the end of it was moldy on the bottom. I went back and complained. These do not have expire dates, they are supposed to be made fresh in the deli, and this had happend. you just never know, and always have to look at things like deli, milk products, and meat!!!

Yes I love a deal but sometimes I think they shouldn't be aloud to sale things that are expired. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I guess you never really know what you are buying sometimes.

I have only noticed it once when buying a bottle of Coca Cola from aFish & Chip shop. The bottle wasn't even reduced! Luckily Coca Cola doesn't really go off, just a bit stale, and it wasn't far out of date so i didn't notice the staleness (i'd been eating the chip i also got) untill i'd drunk about half the bottle so didn't take it back.
I know stuff being sold in the discount sections is almost out of date, but to be actually out of date and not just by a day or two is disgusting and supermnakrkets should only sell it if it's in date, even if onmly in date for the day it was sold.

I completely agree,I have bought mountain dew from a gas station before and took a huge drink only to realize it was stale! Hate that! But I have never had anything like what happened to me today happen before,I love the store I go to,so I guess I just have to be more careful. Lesson learned, thanks.
