what kind of movie person are you?

I called up my friend on Friday and asked her if she wanted to catch the latest movie with me. She promptly asked me "Dea What genre is it?" I said "it is action I think". She asked me to hold as she checked it online...she came back and said "You carry on Dea it is an action movie and you know how I am". I have for sometime tried to convert her but she is person who likes only comedy or Romantic movies.
Me on the other hand I love to watch any good movie and any movie that gets a good review is good movie according to me. I also do not care much about which actor or actress are starring. I am an avid movie watcher and I try to catch the real good ones in the theater and the rest I watch them on DVD once the DVD release happens.
So how about you? What kind of a movie watcher are you? Do you stick to a particular genre or are you faithful to a particular Actor/Actress or are you like me that you could sit through a SHREK as easily as you would through a Exorcist kind of a movie?
Do share your thoughts here with me....

I like those in the fantasy/sci-fi genre. Not too many around. Scary plots are nice too. If the movie has an actor/actress that I like, ok, maybe that too.

I am one of those rare women who hates "chick flicks". Anything that has alot of reality doesn't interest me much.
I love action, sci-fi, and horror. Every once in a while a good thriller will hold my attention without irritating me, but I really don't want to see people drying over things that can happen in real life, and pay theater prices to do it.

Yes I know what you mean, real life drama is already there in our lives why pay $9 to watch it... I usually watch these kind of movies on DVD saves a lot of money and in turn allows me to watch more movies at the same price. thanks for the response

I normally, it watching a movie at cinema halls, go for good movies, movies by masters. Bergman, Eisenstien, Fellini, Kurosawa, De Sica, Tarkovsky, Satyajith Ray were my one time favorites but later came more and more talented film makers like Keislowsky, Majid Majidi, Mohseen Macmalbuff.... to name out there are many. I am associated with the film society movement and Film Academy here in my city.
We have films screenings in our regional TV channels which mostly telecast popular soaps and comedy entertainers. I like to see them also but give no seriousness to them. To me, a movie should have something to tell about the common life and it should have a grammar and aesthetics in presenting it.
Thank you Dea.

So you are the lucky person who gets to see all those movies ... I used to wonder who are the people , common people who sit on the hot seat and keep watching great movies one after another and give a critique's review for all of them,no not the newspaper reviewers they are not worth their salt is what I feel ( Most of them not all of them!). I too liked some of the great movie makers but here we get less and less of foreign movies and even if we get them it takes days before we get hold of a copy! Although I have to admit I have yet to have the habit of remembering the directors names.... I do recognise a few of the master film makers you have mentioned here but most of them are like Greek to me. I guess I still have to hone my movie viewing skills! Thanks for dropping by

Yes, the US is yet to find a good spot in the map of good films and film makers. But all European countries had scored much. The far east too have representation. Now I think it comes to the turn of the 3rd world, especially Iran, Vietnam, Korea, some African and Latin American countries. Thank you Dea.

Wow bluewings I like that attitude! Never be bound to one genre.... I love anykind of movies except some God awful movies like " The Abandoned". It was a bad movie I could not believe it even passed through the movie reviewing board! Anyway I got to see Spiderman3 and I quite like the good spidey/bad spidey action... though Mary Jane had me cursing her, there were times when I felt MJ was not needed much in this movie at all. The action was good although there are goofups but I guess it comes with the territory. Bond, MI are good movies to watch. I also love some of those Japanese and Chinese movies, they are making some good movies!

Me too badly made movies are waste of money, but I have found out that though some of the movies are badly made the script necessarily is not that bad, it is sometimes the wrong actor/actresses palying a particular role or sometimes the director has made a hash of the story. Neverthless in such cases the whole story goes to waste. Thanks for dropping by...

I'm pretty much like you. Whatever movie it is, I watch it. Even sucky ones. Only, not in the movie house. I only go to the movies if there's a really huge film coming out like Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3. Other than that, I watch it at home. I'm not a very picky watcher though. I can watch whatever, as long as I have nothing to do. I even watch those utterly corny but oh so cute Disney Channel movies. It kind of depends on my mood though. When I'm down I want feel good movies, no matter how corny and predictable they are. That's my favorite genre actually. If there's such a genre. But when I get in the mood for action, then I watch that. Or whatever's available. Even boring ones (I just tend to sleep through some parts, lol!)

I was talking about the Disney Original Movies in Disney Channel. I love them too! Really. I'm trying to collect all of them on DVD. To me, there's the "good corny" and the "bad corny". Disney movies are "good corny" because it's so obvious what's gonna happen and it's like the crisis gets resolved just like that. But like you said, there always are lessons to be learned from them and that's what I love about them. They teach us morals at the same time entertaining us. What I love is that they are easy to watch and they cheer me up. They are feel good movies, and I just can't get enough of them, no matter how "childish" other people say they are. I hate it when they say that, like being older makes them too good for Disney movies.

My favorite I would say is romantic comedies but i like a variety also. When going to the movies i like comedies or action. Action is good because it seems more powerful on the big screen. I'm not real big into exorcist type movies, but i will watch them if someone else is.

That is nice that you would not mind any other genre of movie if you were accompanying some friend, so you are actually not picky but given a choice you like Romantic Comedies and Action!
I agree that action movies are best watched on the big screen nothing can bring those effects like a theatre can. I plan to watch Pirates3 on a even better medium of IMAX, it should be one grand experience I guess.

Hi Dea! I love any genre of movie, to the musicals, classics "the escape from Alcatraz', "the last castle", foreign movies too (hispanic, anglo-american, french, japanese~~lol)I'm not much into action, except if it has a good plot, like for the "Bourne identity", "ocean eleven", on war, so far I love the "four feathers", for sci-fi, I like too the "Stargate" (hhmm, not sure of the title..~~lol)And I love movie marathon, like for "Star wars", "Harry Pother", "lord of the Rings". You appreciate more the sequels when they are viewed continuously. I also love "chronicles of Narnia". I love cartoons too, lately my favorite is the "polar express"..And for horror movies, I do watch them, but I have only one eye opened.~~lolI haven't seen "Spiderman 3" yet but I'm looking forward to it and to the "pirates of the carabeans 3" also. And I also love romantic movies like "music and lyrics", and comedy movies too. Well, almost everything...~~lol
Have a great weekend Dea!! (^^,)

I enjoy watching movies in every genre possible. You won't know what the movie might 'teach' you if you don't give it a shot. But I totally refused to watch horror movies of any kind or language. The last time I watched this Jap movie 'Ghost Doll Hanako', I couldn't sleep for a whole week. I kept imagining that the doll was right outside my window, under my bed and in my cupboard, waiting to drag me into hell.

I am more on suspense and horror, I love movies which make me scream and squirm in disbelief!I don't like films which make me just relax in my chair, no challenge and great anticipation. I don't like purely romance movies because the plot is so predictable, you can easily guess what will happen next, kinda boring stuff.
