I guess it all depends on how well you know the person. I mean if you know they wouldn't want you to it's iffy. But if you're sure they'll be alright with it... Will this person inform the owner?

I think he wouldn't because he took that thing without the consent of the owner and he intends to return it without the knowledge of the owner as well. thanks for posting :)

ok technically it is stealing because the person doesn't know that you took it, but at the same time it is borrowing becaue you have the intentions of returning it...lol this is a good one

Yes that is stealing. I don't believe you asked that question! If you was not stealing the item then you would've asked the person for permission to use or borrow the item. In the court system that is considered STEALING. that is just the same as going to the store and putting on a pair of pants or shirt and walking out the store without paying for it. Then the next day (returning the item)taking it back to return. THAT IS STEALING. No way around it just theft.

This is a hypothetical question. I did not say I am doing it. This was inspired by one of Spongebob Squarepants' (Nickelodeon channel) episode where Spongebob and Patrick took a balloon from a vendor with the intention of returning it...unfortunately the ballon burst so they were unable to return it and then they became fugitives wanted by law. Thanks for the post.

In the yes of a court if there wasn't any discussion about borrowing said item it would be considered theft if reported as such. Bummer
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It absolutely is stealing, I have no doubt about it at all. If you thought that the owner would lend it to you, you would have no problem asking. If you thought they would not lend it to you, then you are sneaking and taking something which is beyond a doubt stealing.
I would make an exception if it was an emergency and something like you needed to drive my car to take someone to the hospital, or police station, and I wasn't available to give permission. Anything else is theft.
