Every country is faced with he issue of unemployment. How to create more jobs? Whether these jobs should be in tghe Private or public sector, or both? How to edicate people better so they qualify for jobs? Australia's jobless rate is 4.4%.This is the lowest unemployment level since May 1976. In my state of South Australia, the jiobless rate is 5.3%, higher than average. See the full article here: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,21705569-911,00.html

In the United States, its 4.5% in April. Some areas have plenty of jobs like Southern California, but nobody can live on minimum wage in this area. I don't know of an easy solution, but higher paying jobs would help in Southern California.

Very low, low enough, but such statistics mean nothing really. It's what the government loves to wow people with. But the bottom line is - do you have a job? Period.

It was really good to hear that the unemployment had fallen and is not at an all time low, well the lowest it has been for some 30 years that is. This is all the more surprising considering the drought, and the fact that a lot of farmers have had to put off any labourers that they had employed. Also when farmers have no money, they don't buy seed, fertiliser, diesel or new machinery. That makes it much worse for the suppliers of all of those things, but somehow we still managed to have a very low unemployment figure. A friend has been working in the wineries as a seasonal for some years. Normally they are busy till about the end of April, working 7 days a week and then it flattens out for a while. So, for about 2-3 months they get all the hours that they want. This year it was all over very early and the season only lasted about a month. He was lucky as they kept him on for a while .. as a casual but he expects that he will be finished by the end of May. Normally he can count on working till June/July every year. So, the figures are great but imagine how much better they would be if we weren't in drought here in Australia.

I dont know what is the exact percent of the unemployed people, but still think that the social politic of our gouverments is not good -it doesnt matter who rules. And many educated young people cant work because of their qualification and do something else because they need money. You can see there a high-qualificated specialist to sell tomatoes at the market just because he has no choice. And it`s sad :-(

As of April, 2007 the unemployment rate is at 4.5% in the United States. There is an increase in jobs in the service industry, and health care, and a decrease in manufacturing jobs. Not everyone is cut out for work in health care, and service jobs don't pay well. Having a good education helps, but doesn't guarantee anything.
