Irrational fears your dog has.

My eighteen month old Springer Spaniel Leo has an irrational fear of the vacuum cleaner. I think they make a noise at a higher frequency than humans can perceive, and it is a noise that dogs do not like. I noticed he will cower in a corner and tremble when I vacuum, and vacate which ever room he is in if I happen to be vacuuming in there. Usually I let my dog out before I vacuum because I do not want him to feel afraid. However, even when the vacuum cleaner is stationary he will still growl at it a little as he walks past. What is your dog afraid of?

When my dog was a puppy if I let him outside in the yard and he heard a dog barking he would run back in the house and stand beside me..lol..it was so cute. It didn't matter if it was a really big bark from a big dog or a little bark he was afraid of them all. Not anymore he just starts barking with them now. My dog doesn't like the vacume either if it is going towards him but yet he will bark at it the whole time and jump at it to try and bite it, it is really hard to vacume with him..lol.Actually it's hard to sweep and mop with him around too he just chases them aand jumps in my dirt pile and then I after to start all over again. What can yah do..lol

Leo used to bite the vacuum cleaner when he was a puppy, but not anymore. As for chasing the mop, my four month old Jenny does exactly the same thing. I don't believe she is afraid of it. She just wants to play. lol As for dirt piles, Leo is a very hairy dog and we have to trim him up in summer to keep him cool, and he tries to eat his own hair and play in it. Dogs are hilarious.

Yes they are funny. I actually have discovered something my dog is afraid of this week. We were out walking and someone had left their lawn mower on the side walk, it was turned off, they must have gone to get something, so I start walking around it and Meeko stopped and started barking and then he pulled me as far as he could get away from the lawn mower. I didn't think anything of it by walking beside it because it wasen't on but Meeko was like I don't think so, were walking over here..lol..it was cute.

I have a Golden who loves people when they come into my house but when we go out for a walk and someone passes us by, he shows his teeth and crouches really low. I just dont understand it.

It sounds like your dog is afraid. Maybe find the web site of the Dog Whisperer, watch his show or buy his book, he knows how to fix these things. Basically you need to assert your dominance over your dog when it does this.

I don't know if my dog is afraid of vacumms but she goes into her cage when I get the vacuum out. But she doesn't act afraid of it...she is very afraid of thunderstorms which it has been doing here all day today.
