so there seems to be alot of Wizard of Oz symbolisms in this Lost series..."Wizard of Oz" and Henry Gale - he's was a character in Oz too. Anyways, Jacob...what or who was that? Was it one of Ben's tricks? Was he actually having a conversation w/ someone in the chair? or was it a game he was playing? and if so, then why couldn't he hear Jacob "speak" when we heard him talk to Locke?? and why was it so important for him to know what Locke heard? Can Jacob leave his fortress? or can he only stay w/in the perimeter of the black dirt?? any theories????

There are quite a few references to different
books within the series. Including the Bible
particularly. As I said before, Ben could have
said "Help me" because Locke's back was to him.
Chances are Ben had planned on shooting Locke
at the pit all along. He is, after all, the master
manipulator. The other parlor tricks I'm not sure
of yet.
The fact that he wanted Locke to repeat what Jacob
said was just a form of control. I'm thinking Jacob
was probably real at some time and is someone Ben
thought deeply about and probably can't let go.
Can anyone say Psycho & Hitchcock?
This whole thing with the gravel, dirt, still has
me baffled.

First of all, Ben is a whack job, so it could go either way, he could have been having a conversation with himself or there could have been a Jacob. Locke did hear something tho..."help me". However, as to Ben, wouldnt trust him as far as I can throw him, hes big into manipulation, so I wouldnt put it past him.

yeah Locke & the viewers did hear someone say HELP ME...but why did Jacob start tearing the place apart when Locke turned on the flashlight?? Does Jacob have such an aversion to technology??

That whole scene reminded me of Jason and
the movie Friday the 13th.

Lets suppose Jacob is an alien. Earth is foreign to him, and perhaps light reflects off him a different way. He cannot be seen unless he takes the form of another. Therefore most of the time he is invisible. He wants to be seen but he cannot. He also wants to return to his own world, but in his present form he cannot operate the delicate machinery of his spacecraft, if there is one, or repair it. It also takes an effort for him to speak and make himself known to humans. He could influence Ben because Ben was a boy when he first seen him. I would presume that sentient beings like Jacob could reach children, especially those neglected and hated by their parents.

I think Jacob has some kind of influence on the island we haven't yet seen. I don't think Jacob is a trick, and he is very real. I think he has the ability to make himself appear or not appear to people on command.
Jacob asked for help......which is odd. Why would someone with so much power as for help? And why is Ben the only one allowed to visit Jacob?
What if Jacob is some kind of prisoner of Ben's? Maybe the reason why Jacob is asking for help is so he can escape.

You read the SPOILERS as shown in your last
discussion post. What's the point?

Yeah I'm leaning toward the theory of Jacob being a "real" entity...perhaps similar or connected to the black smoke & the invisible thing that crushes the trees in the woods. I'll subscribe to the idea that Ben is holding Jacob as a prisoner...perhaps Jacob can only remain w/in the perimeter of the black dirt..and is now begging Locke to help him. Still perplexed as to if Jacob is begging for help he'd react that way to the flashlight...perhaps technology pulls him farther away from "reality" or a "safe place".
Ben has probably instilled fear in the Others to not visit Jacob...he may have had one of his episodes when they were there - that would detere me from returning.
Jumpinjack - again w/ the references of Spoilers...what's up w/ that?

First check out coldphilter's only discussion
then ask me what's up. He's simply stating
from spoilers which ruins it for the rest
of us.
You're right, Jacob is something real alright.
As I stated above, there was someone in the
chair briefly. If Ben is holding Jacob hostage
then we enter a whole new realm with the addition
of Wicca, Witchcraft or Voodoo. I don't know of any
other way to keep an entity confined.
I'm not sure I want to go down that path. I don't
think the writers do either. I think you're right
that he was asking Locke for help but who did the
asking. Locke's back was turned when "Help Me" was
uttered. Is it really Ben's alter ego? Is it his
inner self crying for help but is afraid of coming
into the light?
A question. Why didn't any of the Others stop Locke
from pounding on Patchy? Ben wanted it stopped but
it was like he was no longer in command for the
moment.
Like I said, look at coldphilter's only discussion
posted and ask if he's got theories or if it's
stating from a SPOILER. You have to be careful what
you read.
