Longway or Shortcut! How do you decide in life? Do you go for shortcuts anyway?

Longway! A straight but long run, Shortcuts ... Apparently easy way to reach a point but with zig zags. Life is full of opportunities and so many ways to avail those. Like computer keyboards having shortcuts, computer commands having shortcuts to access different programs etc., one can choose shortcut in life to achieve a certain goal. How do you decide in your life.. what to choose? Do you prefer shortcut anyway knowing that sometimes opting the shortcut is dangerous?

I seldom take shortcuts because I don't want to miss on some life's lessons. But as to computers, I do them all the time. It depends on each situation and things under consideration. It is okey to take calculated risks when taking shortcuts. The important things is that you don't go there blind not knowing what to expect and just leave everything to chance because one might really take on more that what one bargained for.

One must learn the lesson but do you think that output of longway is fleeting all the time! Hmmm computer shortcuts ! Good to use :) Thanks for response too.

What do you mean 'fleeting'? If fleeting means that it has no lasting effect, then I totally disagree. Since the purpose is for us to learn life's lessons then it is never fleeting. Thanks!

this resembles like finding solutions in math problems. i like doing the shortcuts but i took note that i should also know how to do the longcut versions. when speed is of the essence, like math competitions, shortcuts is very important. but when details is required, the longcut version is quite handy. in life decisions, it is basically the same for me. i like doing some things the simplified way or shortcut. i believe that not all shortcuts are in zigzags. but there are instances that you need to go thru the long process, and i take that road whenever necessary. it depends on where we are going, which direction to take and how long we have to get to that point. there are decisions in life that are timebound... sometimes they need quick decisions or sometimes we have to go thru the details before deciding. i prefer to weigh my options and decide which to take.. shortcut or the longcut. :)

Going to shortcut or opt to long way, it totally depends upon the situation and the nature of problem. Sometimes shortcuts are good if problem is a normal one, but mostly a wise decision is the all making either a short cut or long way. Thanks for a good discussion Aliasad!

Since none of us know when our live will end....I think that we all attempt to make the best decision possible for us, at the time the decision is made...looking backwards later and thinking that I should have done this...is a useless point, except as a lesson. While we all want to get ahead in life....the choices that we make and the circumstances of our lives together decide what will be the end result....we make choices everyday that we so not even think about...we decide to get up and go to work....we decide to sleep in today and not go to work....both of these decisions have consequences.....there are many people who have never missed a day of work that was not necessary.....while others seem to change jobs every other week....that is the glory of having the right to make your own choices....the only drawback is having to deal with the consequences of your decisions...and the other people who are also depending on the decisons that you choose to make.

Yes, you are right that one must never repent if decisions goes wrong or not comes upto the expectations. Surely, for every decision there are consequences and thses are not known to us until it happen. Thanks for response!

I grew up thinking that shortcuts were the way to go in life. Boy was I wrong, they have caused me nothing but grief. The only shortcuts that are any good I have found are those that are taken driving. Shortcuts in life are usually bad and end in disaster. Taking shortcuts to a goal in life seems to backfire and you end up at the goal and don't know what is going on.

Sometimes you have to take a shortcut to get where you need to go if you are in a hurry. Some things are better if you put in the time and take the long way. I think each individual has to make those decisions on their own. Some people do better with taking risks and others are afraid to take risks.

While travelling I use shortcuts, but while living the life, I never use short cut methods, as there are no short cut methods for success.

In life I prefer to go the short way although when I was younger I would always take the long way to do most things, but with somethings it is good to go the long way and take your time to think about exactly what you are doing.

as a human who wants instanioues gratification I want to use short cuts but as I am getting older and have children I encourage the long way, patience is such a virtue and make one so wise and strong. Where often times short ways are as you stated dangerous and un knowing and untried and sometimes it works and you think yeahhhh but others you fall flat on your face and think geesh why didnt I wait?

The long way needs lots of patience in order to archive a goal. This is like saying slowly but surely. Shortcuts are risky and should only be taken if you have understood all the risks involved and the consequences that come with such actions. if you do it right, shortcuts can be worth it.

Usually i do things in a systematic manner. I feel that procedures are been made so that the work gets over in a systematic manner and without any problem. When we go for short cut methods and if some problem occurs then thats it, we will have to do everything from the scratch. Short-cuts can be chosen at times of necessity and with the experienced one to guide us!

he-man - He-man the cartoon
I used to be very conservative and always took the long-winded approach. It's to build character, dad would always say but I find it increasingly hard in today's society. Ever heard of good guys finishing last? Nowadays, I employ a mixture of these two approaches in my daily life decisions. It's something that I have come to terms with.
