Say a prayer for me, please

6 am this morning, I received a phone call. I didn't get out of bed fast enough to answer it, but it was Pastor Mary from Mercy hospital asking for me to call my mom's cell phone. I called her back, and she said that Dad's had a major heart attack, and wanted to let me know. He's been moved to critical care. That's about all she knew.
My neighbor is taking my youngest for the morning, until DH can get off work, and the older two will be at school for the day. So, I'm off to see Dad.
Now, This really doesn't come as much of a surprise. MY father is a person that lives in the here and now. He has type 2 diabetes, lupas, high blood pressure, was a smoker until about 9 months ago. He does excercise at all, and I think he has gained at LEAST 50 lbs. in the past year. One would have thought that with all the surgeries that he's been through (bi-pass, pacemaker) he would have wanted to take better care. I am hoping that this will wake him up to what he's been doing to himself!
I know I sound harsh. we've been telling him for years to take better care of himself. Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. He has 9 grandchilden, and they would like to spend time with their grandpa. He'll be 60 in November.
I'm angry, upset, anxious, nervous, and worried. Please keep the family in your prayers today.

Dear Lord, I just come to you for this family. Lord I just pray that you will help this father/grandfather to open his eyes and ears and see what he is doing not only to himself but to those around him who love him. I ask that you give the spouse, children, and grandchildren the strength and let them feel Your comforting arms around them. Touch these lives today Lord. Keep them safe. Help them to understand what is going on and just bless them today. In YOur precious name I pray, AMEN!

I think God heard you typing gewcew! THank you so much!!! Dad is still sedated, but he was doing better when we left this afternoon. I won't be able to see him tomorrow, but promised my mom that I'll be up to visit on SAt. I'll have more news then.
I will just have to remember this prayer and say it when I go to bed and wake up in the morning.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I have been through the same thing with my dad too with the heart thing. He had high blood pressure also and had to take medication for it. Dad smokes like a freight train even after he had open heart surgery, but he was a workaholic also. I hope that your dad recovers well from this and hopefully it will change his life and get him on the right path. I lost my dad when I was 12 years old due to a massive coronary heart attack. He was in his 40's. I will say a prayer for you right now. I hope everything comes out okay.

Thank you ravinskye. It turns out that it wasn't a heart attack, just a lot of fluid on his lungs, causing the heart to pump slower. The doctors don't know exactly what had caused it, but hopefully, we'll get more news tomorrow.

Thank you BunGirl! I so appreciate this!
Turns out Dad didn't have a heart attack. Or at least they THINK he didn't have one. He has a lot of fluid in his lungs, and his potassium level was way high. (caused by his blood pressure medication.) They put him on some lasicks(sp?) to help the fluid drain and giving him fluids to help him, well, pee, to get rid of the Potassium. He's on a ventilator and sedated, but he's stable, and doing better. (Whew!) I'll keep you posted as to what comes of things as time goes on.

Fluid on the heart is called Congestive Heart Failure. That's what my dad went through. Glad to hear that he is better at least. Praying still for you and your loved ones.

I will keep the family in my prayers. It is hard to watch a loved one tear their bodies down knowing what they are doing by not following good health practices. One good thing is he quit smoking. I hope he realizes how much he is loved. I will keep all in my prayers and hope that your dad realizes that life is too precious to throw it away.

Thank you sunshinelady! It' means so much knowing that people care!
I am hoping that Dad will learn from this experience and do better--if not for himself, at least for his grandkids. This whole ordeal has gotten me worried about my own health, and I'm now going to take steps to make myself a healtier person!

Yea, we'll say a prayer for him of course. Sometimes it takes big scary stuff to get people to change, and unfortunately, some people don't get to change because their physical life has ended. At 60, your father shouldn't have all that stuff wrong with him, he should be enjoying his life. I am assuming he is not taking care of his diabetes and blood pressure? Make sure he gets to see a dietitian and doctor pronto so they can get him on a diet for his diabetes and high blood pressure. That is great that his is exercising though :)
I wish your dad that best :)

Thank you Pablo. I do hope that Dad gets off his butt and starts taking better care of himself. I know that it has scared me into getting healthier. I suppose that is why I was so angry at my original post. I just wasn't willing to realize that it could happen!

My prayers are with you and your family. I know what ever happens it is in his hands. I realize it is hard to see a loved one who is nocomplient with their health.
My mom is the same way she is in an nursing home in severe pain with osteoarthritis because she refused to have a hip replacement and is addicted to pain medications. She refuses to get out of bed and do anything for herself and wants to come home and live with me. I cannot have her here. So I can see her twice a week and have watch her be gorked out of her mind because of the pain.
Good luck to you. My praryer are with you.

Well, thank you so much for taking the time to pray for me. How sad that you mom is so set in her ways. I'll return the prayers for you and hope that she will "come to her senses." Those pain meds can be such a dangerous thing sometimes. Hugs to you (((((((((HUGS)))))))))

I will add you & your family to my daily prayers. I know that at a time like this, nothing can be said or done to take away your pain, but I hope that assuring you that we will add you to our prayers will give you some kind of comfort.....I wish you and your family the best! GodBless

God's Blessing fell upon us. Thank you liyan for your prayers. You are right, for some reason, knowing that there are people out in the world that take the time to care about me and my family makes everything seem alright.

Thank you citygirl. I know we all appreciate the prayers and well wishes.
My dad think he's Mr. Incredible. He is in some respect, but food is his biggest weakness. I hope that this scare will help him understand how to take better care of himself.
