Singapore broadband & fixed line service provider. How to choose?

Hi all,
I am now having a headache which provider to choose for my new home. Which provider has a better offer & should I get a budled package, is it more worth it? Or should I wait for next promo?
I am currently on Singnet broadband that will expire in June. I would want to keep my email address but the cheapest plan I can get is the dial-up plan @$9 a month. Or should I just cancel the plan & take up a new plan with starhub with fixed line & cable tv? But current starhub plan not attractive, only 10% with no freebies...
What do the rest think? Any suggestions?

This will really depend on your usage, and whether you are using the other services by the ISP you are signing up with.
For myself, I am a starhub user, cos of the free IDD to m'sia when they first launched. When SCV was bought over by starhub, and the launch of hubber bonus, it was only natural that I also signed up with maxonline... cos the hubber bonuses are really good!
On top of that, with the combined points that I get from paying my bills, I get to redeem handset vouchers, which i can use to offset my handset upgrades. This works out to about $100, sometimes more every two years!
And the surfing speeds for starhub ain't that bad too.
For Singtel, the Mio plann is also very attractive!
With the annual free handset upgrade, it is also a value for money deal.
Sit down and work out the total amount you have to pay each company if you take all their services, and see which one works better in terms of value for money for your usage patterns, then go for the one that has a better deal!

Hello StoreBerry,
have you decided on your ISP yet?
what factors did you consider when making your choice?
what was it about the one you selected that prompted you to sign with them rather than the other ISP?
how did you calculate your sums to see which one offers you the better package?
share leh! share leh! ;p

Hi ahgong,
I decided to recontract with Singnet as I calculate the broadband charges plus residential line, its cheaper than starhub, about $33 + $8.30 = $$41 which is cheaper than Starhub $47 (after 20% discount). I took the 12mths package as I don;t want to be tied to one provider for too long. The 24 month one is $29.95.
And Singnet upgraded the 512 to 1Mbps which means faster speed, I understand that if there are alot of starhub subscribers in your block, the internet speed will be compromise. And I also got the one month wavier & also $30 Taka voucher so quite worth it lo... I didnt take up the modem cos got existing one already. But I am thinking of buying a wireless modem, any lobangs?

hmm... looks like a good deal you got there!
Glad that you are able to get a package that can cater to your needs ;)
Wireless modem ah... I am not very sure leh. Mabbe a trip to Sim Lim will be able to help you more. I still prefer to use wired access compared to wireless. Cos only got one comp, no point having wireless.

Hihi, think there's quite a huge renotalk community here now! glad to see everyone!
What I did for broadband choice was to check out what offers each provider had at that moment.
We knew we wanted broadband, so dial-up was out of question. We wanted SCV as well, for the soccer channel (which they announced yesterday that they are going to raise the price wah lau). So tried to get a bundle and see whether got free gifts. If now don't have, wait a while.
Also, don't forget to check whether you or your hubby have any corporate rates with either provider. might get better discount.

HI I have starhub corporate rates but not attractive at all. Only 10% discount so I will wait & see first. Thanks!

actually the choice depends largely on a lot of factors. for a start, starhub is famously slow if all the neighbours in your block are using starhub coz all the units will be sharing ONE tube out. in that case singnet will be a better choice. however, if your home is far far away from the relay-station' (not sure of the actual term) and not many in your block is using starhub, then singnet would not be good. second thing to consider is your usage pattern, are you a heavy user who downloads a lot of clips and big files? are you prepared to pay more for good speed? or you are just checking your emails and responding to forums? that'll give you an idea which plan to take on. think jun got PC show, can wait a while to see what they offer.

are you the same applefreak from renotalk?
hello!
heh heh... you got a good point there as well. Like I mentioned... it all depends on your usage. No point paying for a high speed connection if one is just going to static sites like mail sites and forums.
