My rant for the day. I went through the Starbucks drivethru today and that's what some girl said about my dog to the girl who was serving me through the window.
It kind of gave me a bad feeling when I heard it and saw her reaction. She doesn't look like someone who can handle this dog. Wow. the things I felt like saying to her.
Sure, he's cute. But do you know what my life is like with this dog? Want to know why he's in my backseat half awake? Because we just went on our usual 2 mile walk. He'll sleep for the next hour in the car and when we get home he will be running in circles in the back yard with the other dogs.
No offense and sorry to be judgemental here, but I couldn't help but notice you weigh like 220lbs and you look tired from serving coffee. I'd be surprised if you could give a dog like this the excercise it needs. Think he sleeps all day because he's not 50lbs? HAHAHAHA.
What's your yard look anyway? I bet you'd be surpised to know despite his size, he can jump fences and he found out that if he keeps jumping up on a certain spot, the gate opens because he's hitting the latch.
He's also in my car because he can't be left home alone because of his massive seperation anxiety. He's more comfortable and calm in the car. I can leave him in the car while I go in places (well, SAFE places with windows I can see my car from, I wouldn't go grocery shopping) and I trained him that way which wasn't easy. But easier than leaving him home alone.
So any idea what you'd do with him while you work at your little Starbucks job? Also assuming that you're still in highschool or maybe college, do you think this dog could be left alone while you're in school and working? Well, be prepared for your house to be chewed up. Or if you have an apartment, your neighbors and landlords ain't going to deal with the barking or destruction from his anxiety attacks. Think you're going to put it in a cage? Well, just watch and see what he does to himself by chewing and biting himself and how he pants so hard he dehydrates himself. Can you afford $20 a day for daycare or do you have someone you can leave him with all day? Hey, I hope so. Otherwise you'd be another irresponsible person that I hate who has to dump the dog at the pound because it was too much for you to handle.
I hate people who buy the "cute little doggy in the window" without researching breeds. I got this dog from a pound when he was a pup, the thought of someone like that adopting him instead of me kind of made me sick.
Now sure, you might get lucky with your dog that looks like mine. And you might assume he's like this because he's a pound pup but see.. that's the thing, you never know.
Don't buy the cute little doggy in the window or in this case; in someone's backseat.

You sure do assume a lot of things. First off what makes you think that all overweight people are lazy and out of shape? How do you know that Starbucks is her only employment. How do you know that she isn't going to school to be a vet? Does she live with a guy who could look after the dog? It seems you are judging a woman on the grounds that she is tubby and works at starbucks. How do you know the dog would be left alone? Maybe she has a family where there is someone always home. I agree people should not buy animals on the cuteness factor and they should research the breeds but I think assuming so much about a person is a little out of line.

I never said all overweight people were lazy and out of shape. I assume she is because she is like 220lbs and looked tired and worn out at 3pm in the afternoon. She looked about 16 or 17yrs old, so unlikely she is going to school to be a vet. Not that going to school to be a vet means they're automatically qualified to handle it. Maybe she could handle it, maybe she couldn't.
But I'm still under the impression she's a typical person who wants to go out and get the dog based on the cuteness factor. "Little dog like that!!!" Not like she got all excited about the breed, just that he's a little and looks like something cute and cuddly.
I can't help but assume or wonder. Guess it hit me because they were talking about my own dog. I just couldn't imagine the average person dealing with some of the issues I've had to deal with. I also worked in a shelter once and "assuming" things about people based on little things they say and how they would pick out the cutest and youngest in the pound and once they filled out paperwork and were surprised they weren't a match for something like dog needing lots of exercise and they wanted couch potatoes.

Very well said! Its sad how many people get pets not knowing or thinking about what is involved in taking care of them. So many pets get abandoned or abused because of people who don't think about those things.

First of all, I see that you're new, so welcome to myLot! I hope you enjoy your stay.
Secondly, I'm sorry that you were so upset for what she said to you. But, people do tend to speak without thinking, and they also tend to just see what's on the outside (the dog's cuteness)...She probably hasn't done any research on dog breeds, and doesn't know that they're that energetic or that much of a responsibility.

Thanks for the welcome.
People tend to do more than just speak without thinking, many do go out and buy the dog based on the looks. She probably hasn't done the research and probably won't; just like so many people do. Just the way she said it and the tone of her voice and everything irritated me.
