In Australia a lot of areas have hard rubbish days, this is where you put all your unwanted rubbish out the frong on a certain day and the local council comes to pick it up and take it away, this can be old beds frudges or anything, I went on my daily walk on this day a nd I saw this old statue it had been painted a few times, it had a couple of big holes in the plaster and the square part I don't know what was supposed to be there but I would not normally pick up hard rubbish as some people do as a past time but I couldn'r just leave this lady statue just laying there I was sure I could make her beautiful again....well here she is, with the holes re plastered, the old paint stripped down repainted and I put a mirror in the little spot that I still know what would have been there originally and now this lovely lady sits proudly in my bathroom....what a treasure she is....

Oh Wow Lilaclady - good work. Hard waste time is one of my fav times of the year! I love to drive around and see what there is lying around. We acquired a great 2 seater settee one year from just down our road, but we did ask the owner's permission first!
It's amazing what people leave on their nature strip - you could furnish an entire house with what some leave there! I like to pick up odds and ends - guess i'm just Feral! lol

Wow what a great find. I have done this once. Each spring and fall in the community I used to live in here in the US. would have a clean up and you would take all of your unwanted items down to the local fire department then the county would come and pick it up and haul it off. I found an old chair nothing wrong with it except it needed to be refinished. It looks great now. Thanks for sharing your experience.

You did an awesome job restoring that lovely lady. I think I would have stopped and picked her up too. I can't believe someone would want to throw away something like that. I guess they didn't want to do the work to put her back together.

Wow, thats a nice little statue you got there. Its amazing what you can find out there. We have the same kind of thing here except instead of having one day a year we can just put stuff out next to the street and call the city and they will schedule a pick up date twice a year. Its amazing what people leave in front of there houses. I see computers, furniture, appliances and pretty much anything you can imagine. I really dont go out looking for stuff anymore because my wife throws a fit telling me that we have to much stuff now. LOL. Take care!!

WE used to live in a city that did this every spring. It was quite a treasure hunt for people. But it did make me sad to see the homeless people looking for something they might be able to re-sell to make a little bit of money. One year a little old lady filled her shopping cart with a bunch of old records that we set out -- it broke my heart.
