Emo is a slang term used to describe a range of fasion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music and its related scene. Emo is also used to identify a member of the "emo scene" or someone viewed as fitting the "emo" stereotype easly being characterized by a straightened side-part hairstyle covering one eye. Do any of you have kids that are considered "emo" kids? Is this just the latest version of the punk scene from the 80s? I have two young daughters and I wonder if they will join these types of kids in a few years.

As I am interested in "people trends" I just had to find out what Emo was so I went to Wikipedia... it seems like a combination of punk/goth/rock with a style of dress that reflects the same...
I don't have any kids, and don't plan to but this discussion might just inform someone here at MyLot and that's what this guy likes to do, so here you are:

Yes I went to wikipedia.org as well, so I could give an definition of what it is. I'm an online gamer and people call each other emo all the time. Say things like /emo tear, etc. I said emo in front of my 12 yr old and she said "mom, that's kids who want the kill themselves!" !!!! She thought it was a silly thing, but OMG. That scared me.
What do other parents out there think of this?

My cousin's daughter just explained it to me. It is like reliving the Cure, as far as I could tell. Doom, gloom, and music to slit your wrists by. It is short for emotional. There is also Scremo, which is more or less the same, but irate.
