Why doesn't anyone stand up for Meredith?

Last week her dad slapped her and told her it was her fault Susan died. No one said anything, not Derek, not the chief.
This week Thatcher tells Meredith she's not welcome at the funeral and once again that he blames her for Susan's death.
At least Meredith's friends rallied around her and the Chief did tell her later it's not her fault and Thatcher is just lashing out.
Derek is noticeably absent in all this and providing no support.
Poor Meredith! This is alot for anyone to try to cope with!

I agree that Meredith does push people away that try and help her but noe matter what, her "boyfriend" should have stod up for her. I understand that Thatcher just lost his wife but Meredith is his daughter that he claims to love. She lost not only one monther but now two.

The whole show Meredith has been this complex person, different than anyone else, had this brillant mother that lost her mind, and she had relationship problems, we all could relate to her, her issues and what she was going through. Her pushing people away is nothing new, she does it all the time and the ending results is that they finally get through to her in the end, but it is the trial that interests us and that is why we keep coming back to Grey's. It is a great show, I love the Meredith character.

i agree. it seemed as if no one stood up for her when it was all going down. her father is a big horse's butt!! she is better off without him in her life. he wasnt there for so many years so she shouldnt miss what she hasnt had. and what is up with derek? he is acting funny. time for her to move on i guess.

I can't believe that everyone just sat there and watched Thatcher slap Meredith and not say anything. Even though he lost his wife, someone should have said, "Hey, it is not her fault, and that is totally unappropriate." I think Thatcher is a spineless jerk anyway. I thought Susan was a really nice person, so I can't understand her attraction to Thatcher.
Derek, "McDreamy," has been extremely withdrawn lately. Is he doing this just to let the Chief know that he's serious about the position? I think he should have ran over and stepped between Thatcher and Meredith. Or at least comforted Meredith. I was extremely disappointed with his actions!

Im really starting to tire of the merry go round that the Meredith Character is on. It seems like she always is needing someone to stand up for her, protect her, 'breathe for her' cos shes always drowning one way or another. My husband and I have started calling it "pulling a meredith" when people start acting that way in our real lives lol. Granted Thatcher shouldnt have acted the way he did, slapping her and cussing her out in public and in front of all of her peers but she needs to find a backbone and start standing up for herself.

I think that most of them were stunned and didn't know what to say to her. Meredith has a habit of pushing everyone away. I think that Derek wants to be there for her but he's just not sure how and she doesn't seem to want him there. Its a lot to cope with, but I think she'll pull through.
