I have not smoked in 3 days, I have been taking welbutrin and it has been working good, but the problem I have now is when I woke up this morning, I was all depressed, over what? I don't know, quite not sure, but crying over every little thing, even crying at times, I don't even know what I'm crying about! I didn't know you could get depressed over anti-depressants..... Has anyone else here experienced depression after quitting smoking, this does get better right? Gosh I hope so, or I will have to ask my doctor for stronger anti-depressants krissy

Hey there my friend. Im glad youve deceided to quit smoking. And I have had a friend who use welbutrin to stop smoking and it really worked. And of course your going to be depressed. It will go away. Stay positive. You already did the hardest part you took that step to help yourself. No I dont think you need to take anything stronger. You will be fine. Hang in there.

yes, I know it's going to get better one day at a time, my husband too has quit the same time as me so we are going through this together, but he is not depressed, and I don't plan on telling him I'm depressed, I don't want to make things harder on him! :)

Actually, he may be depressed and not wanting to tell you. If you two are going to do this together, you need to be up-front with each other. Don't hold anything back. Your feelings can be your strong point. Be selfish, do it for the right reason, whatever it is. Don't do it for your partner, do it because it's the best thing you can do for yourself. Good luck.

I don't know if i could, since i just found out i am pregnant. I have reduced considerably, on my way to quitting for my baby's sake. I used to smoke one pack a day, i'm down to 10 a day, and keep going down, but..it's so freakin hard!

I was suppose to have tried these but if they made you depressed I think i will just stay with lexapro. Although I do need to quit smoking. I have done it before and I will quit again.

You should speak with your health care provider as this is not a normal reaction to wellbutrin nor is it normal to nicotine withdrawal. Regarding the quitting - keep on hanging on - it gets better and NO MATTER WHAT - don't start smoking again! Mark Twain once said, "Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world, I have done it a thousand times."

Well you are then suggesting that I have lost my mind, and listen what medical school did you attend? What make you a expert on withdraw and mental health? If you are suggesting my 1 bad day was a mental breakdown or something, then you are suggesting so many people that repsonded to my post all crazy too. And as for Mark Twain, honey, if he had to quit smoking 1,000 times, then he never really quit at all! that makes no sense.

I certainly did not mean to offend you in anyway - I was only responding to your post. You mentioned that you were on Wellbutrin to quit smoking and that you felt depressed. I was only stating that it isn't a normal response - and it is a good idea to talk to your health care provider. I am qualified in mental health - but I was not trying to suggest anything regarding your situation. As someone who has gone through the struggles of quitting smoking several times - the Mark Twain quote has been a source of inspiration for me when I thought about having "just one". It wasn't meant to offend you - but I hoped it would make you at least chuckle. I really didn't mean to offend you.

Congratulations on not smoking for three days and I hope that you will keep that streak going so you can be healthy and live longer. I did not get depressed after stopping smoking when I was younger. It was pretty easy for me as the smell was terrible and my breath was bad and hearing all the health risks stopped me. I can understand how it can be tough on other people. I do think it will get better for you the longer you go without smoking.

This might just be a side effect. I know it doesn't make sense having an anti-depressant making you depressed. I was on Zyban when I was prego to help me quit and it worked great! I don't remember there being any side effects so maybe you can ask about that. There is also this new stuff I can't remember what it's called but its new and it just for quitting smoking. I saw it on this website. www.mytimetoquit.com go to the prescription part. insurance maight not cover it if not it's like $98

I do not smoke, so I can not give you some advice from my own experience. But many people around me who have tried to quit smoking told me once they quitted smoking, they would feel uncomfortable here or there. some of them even got serious illness. so they told me the earlier people quit smoking, the better.

Hi Tiggyann, oh yes you can get quite depressed takng anti-depressants they have done this to me many times that is why I no longer take them. It is wonderful how you have given up smoking and I wish you much success with it as I know that it is really hard to stop, due to I am a smoker and there are days I think about giving it another try, but each time I have tried I got sicker than I was in the first place. But I certainly would not ask your doctor for more anti-depressants as most of them do not work the way that they say that they will.

yes i did its really hard but i am on the other side now i mean i have stopped about 80 % hope it reaches 100 pray for me and when it comes to you it will happen because there is decrease in nicotine in yur body so you dont feel comfortable as your body is used to inhalation of nicotine dont worry you can stop smoking but do it gradually and slowly you will succeed ;)

i have quit from smoking for 5 year. when stopping from smoke it seems really was difficult. however with my patience could overcome alls the problem. if you get depressed it mean your body is in adaptation. So you must adjust your body that eventually will be felt comfortable.

True, Agreed upon, It is one of the hardest things to quit smoking, I have tried so many times in vain. Whenever I tried to quit it, I did not last for long, Situation got worst for me, I become annoying, irritating, less cooperative and rude. Most of the times I shouted rather than cried.

I stopped smoking on the 20th of March and I have had no ill effects whatsoever. I am not using patches, or gum or anything else to help me. I made up my mind on the spur of the moment and feel great. I do get a hankering for a butt after a good meal to accompany a brandy but so far I am doing great. Wish I could be more helpful to you. The only thing I might add is that the things you use in place of smoking is what is causing all the problem. Its a mind thing. Be positive in your thinking and say that you can quit without any placebos or depressants of any kind. I am proof that it works. Hope you find a solution so that you can continue nicotine free.

Hey Tiggy I knew an older man who used welbutrin to quit smoking & it worked well for him. My philosophy has always been if you don't want to smoke you won't-there is a big difference between wanting to quit & not wanting to smoke. If you wanna smoke you can want to quit all day long but you'll still smoke. Just grasp ahold of the mindset that you don't want to smoke, don't replace your ciggies when you run out & if you're still going through anxiety or depression you can get an rx accordingly. You can do it chickie|:) If you don't wanna smoke you won't & I feel you don't want to smoke any more +'s 2 U :D ps I smoke on occasion but I am not addicted to ciggies-I just smoke when I want to,I don't let ciggies control me(like I have to keep them on hand) Just wanted you to know it is possible to have the feeling of "I don't want to smoke" rather than "I wanna quit"-but you still lite up You will be successful :)

When I first started taking my anti-depressant I began feeling seriously depressed. Talk to your doctor about it. For me, I needed a stronger dose, but sometimes, it's just that the medication helps you recognize the depression that you were hiding up until then. I was really bad about never admitting how I felt about anything...now I know my life stinks...well, pieces of it anyway :)

It sounds like the withdrawal effects of Nicotine. I quit smoking just under 8 months ago, and the first week was hellish for me! I suffer from Depression too, but I don't take Anti depressants, and for the first week that I quit smoking, my partner and kids were walking on eggshells around me lol. It does get easier though. Your body has to get used to life without Nicotine is all, and as long as you hang in there and keep going, it'll ease off. Keep going! Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

My friend,I can unstand your feeling.Yes,it's quite hard to stop smoking. I have stopped stoming for almost half year and yes,it's so impatient at the beginning.I didn't cry but I must find something to release,to make me calm down. When I wanted to smoking,I forced myself drinking water,so that I can feel better.Hope you can feel better.
