Would You Give Your Boss One of Your Kidneys?

A woman in England is doing just that.
'Alma Caldwell, who heads the non-profit organization, North Tyneside Age Concern, says Angela Dawson is "an angel.",' according to a Reuters article. The two have worked together for 12 years.
The boss was diagnosed with polycystic kidneys four years ago and had been on dialysis since then. Neither her mother nor sister were a cloe enough match to be considered a kidney donor.
I've had some bosses I liked, but not THIS much.
I hope Ms. Dawson will get a very nice bonus this year!

Personally I am not sure I could do that. For some reason I think it would not be anything he would even consider with all of my Health issues that I have, plus I am sure it would not even be allowed if I could. But I am sure there are many people all over the world that work for various companies and Bosses that it would be no big deal if they ever did, and have a close enough relationship that someone like this would be appreciated as well.

I could only do it if I was very good friends with the boss, or if the person had some special situation (such as they were supporting a family, etc.) Donating a kidney is a major operation, and of course the donor has only only kidney left, so if anything goes wrong with the one remaining organ, that's a major problem!

My boss actually was ticked off that I quote "had the nerve to get cancer in the busiest time of our season". He wanted to know if I "had any other things planned that was going to make me miss work". So to be honest... the only way I'd donate my kidney to this a-hole would be if I was certain that after the long and tedious operation my kidney would stop and cause him more pain. LOL I'm sorry.. that was mean... and stooping to his level. God forgive me. But I think it would be very hard for me to do that. For just about anyone else in the world that I knew I was a match to I could do it but someone as evil, mean and self centered as him I would have some real hesitations.

Wow, what an idiot! I'd think a boss should be smart enough to know that even if he really felt that way, it would be wise not to actually say that to an employee! Like people plan out the diseases they'll have in their life... I guess some bosses feel that employees are trying to cheat them at every turn. Guys like him give all boses a bad name.

If my kidney was a match for someone I knew and cared for, yes I would give it up. BUt it would have to be a good match, or it could be dangerous for both of us.

This is what I called a human act of compassion. Ms. Dawson has been working with her boss for 12 years. I think the boss had helped her a lot in the space of that time. It would not be difficult for her to make the decision of donating her organ to her boss.
Be it a family member, friend, co-worker, or employer, if there is an affinity attached to each relationship, we will gladly give our organ to anyone who is closest to our heart.
