if you watch the high def version of the episode on tivo/dvr and go through it frame by frame while Ben is talking to Jacob, there is a brien flash of a man sitting in the rocking chair! (No, I didn't do this, but the frame is on tmz.com's Lost Blog)

I saw the flash in the live episode. Some of my friends have said they saw a flash of Jacobs eyes. I didn't catch that one though.

Yep. It was real. There were apparently more than one bear at one point. The others talked about them. I seem to remember that the Darma people were doing animal experiments a long time ago.

Actually, the polar bear is real. I think Jacob might be something, but I don't know what. If he wasn't real, then Ben could have set up a booby-trap to kill Locke. Therefore, Ben must really think someone was there.

I think Ben is crazy too. But something tells me that Jacob is real and not a figment of his imagination. But he's still crazy!

I don't think it's a hoax, but I suspect that there will be some kind of odd answer for it that I don't much like at the end. Right now, my money's on Jacob being the final cylon. ; )

The polar bears were real and kept in the cage Sawyer was then put in. Jacob is real too, you can see him for 11 frames in the episode. What he will develop into in further episodes is anyones guess, but I'm sure he's central to the plot.

I always thought that Jacob was an alien or a demon that could take the form of a human. You read about angels appearing in human form and even taking human form for a time. Therefore such things are possible. It would also count for the massacre by the Hostiles. Normally they would have sent a delegate to Dharma to straighten things out or give a declaration of war, say to get out or else, then everyone gets their weapons and starts blasting at each other. A demon would use the demonic approach.
