Did your babies have hair or were they bald at birth?

I was looking through pictures of my littles ones and it made me wonder how it was in other families. All of mine have had not much more than fuzz (if that) at birth and didn't really have a "full head of hair" until they were closer to a year (more with a couple!) So what about your children? Were they ALL bald or did they ALL have hair or did you have a mix, some with hair, some without?

All my children born with head full of dark black hair. So soft and silky. Not only my children, even my sisters and brohers children were never bald or with less hair when they were born. I think it is heraditory.

Yes, it must be hereditary. My sister was born with dark hair and all of her children were born with hair also. I was bald and didn't have much hair for the first year and all of my children have been the same.

I haven't had kids yet, but I had hair when I was born, but my little sister was born bald, and stayed that way for a few months. :]

All my children have had hair, very fine hair but quite abit of it. I'm not sure why some babies have hair and some don't when they are born. One of my cousins was without hair when he was born but he had grew abit of hair after a few weeks. I have noiced quite alot of babies that are born without hair or with hardly any grow up with blonde or fine hair. ~Joeys wife

All my children had good growth of hair at the time of birth. Now my grand daughter is also having good black hair and my daughter-in-law says in their family no child had this much hair at the time of birth.

Well, my daughters have hair already when I gave birth to them. My eldest daughter got a very thick hair during birth. yes I have seen a lot of babies being born with only a few strands of thin hair until they reach one or two. I dont know what causes that, but I guess its fine... Its just that parents cannot put some ribbons in the hair of their baby girl.

2 of them had wavy short reddish blond hair, one of them had a head full of black hair that stuck out like a pom pom and one was completely smooth headed... the pom pom child is the one that I craved jalepenos with the entire pregnancy and I indulged quite often in the spicy buggers - do you think that could have done it?

I'm not sure about my oldest because he seemed to have almost no hair but he was so fair thatit looked like he had less than he did. Now he's got kind of mousey brown hair. My youngest was born with a big bunch of black hair, then he seemed to go bald, now he has really blond long hair. It's very fine but ther eis a lot of it.

My two pudgy babies were also the two that seemed to be the most bald. The one also had very fine hair when it did grow out so he still looked half bald until after his first hair cut. Now it's not so "baby fine" and looks really thick.

Seeing your baby for the first time is amazing. I don't think it's something a mother can ever forget!

I agree, it's something i'll never forget, although i was still grogy, since I had a general anasthetic for my c-section. But I still remember how i felt and what I said to my husband when I saw him...It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

I have 4 kids 3 had a full head of hair and one was a baldy, my first born her head was full of dark thick hair and when she was 5 months old she had her first hair cut, my last one which by the way is a fraternal twin was bald but she was still a cutie.

Aww that's so neat to have one baldy and three with hair, especially since she was one of a set of twins. Was it a fraternal brother or sister that had the hair? Either way it must have been so sweet to see them together. I kind of like having bald babies because it usually makes them look like a baby for a little longer and they grow up so fast as it is.

I had boy and girl twins, the boy had tons of hair, the girl was bald up until a year old, my first daughter and my twin son actually looked more like twins, If they had been born together we would never had been able to tell them apart except the gender, lol.

I am single so got no baby yet. But honestly I would love to have one when given the chance to get married soon in God's time. I have 2 nephews and 1 niece, they all have hairs on the day of birth. Some say a baby will have more hair if the mom while still prenant eats alot of green leafy veggies. Am not sure how true.

I have never heard that but I don't think it's always true. I ate a lot of green leafy vegetables but it didn't make a difference. I think hair growth has more to do with heredity than with diet.

Out of 3 kids my first daughter was born totally bald and we laugh at her baby pictures to this day. When the nurses brought her to me I'll never forget the pink bow they had taped to the top of her head! She didn't have a strand of hair until she was 3 years old the poor baby. I"m happy to say that today she has gorgeous hair.

All of my siblings and I were born with thick black curly hair and it never fell out. My son was born with thick dark brown straight hair that touched the nape of his neck, and oddly enough, steel grey "moonlight" eyes.

My oldest daughter had very gray eyes at birth. Now they are a medium brown. She's the only one with brown eyes. The others were born with blue/gray eyes. One now has greenish blue, 2 have blue, one has gray and the youngest still also has his blue eye but he's only 6 months so that may still change.

Think straight hair is Out this year and curly hair is In. I have a very straight hair and sometimes i wonder what would i look like with my hair curled.i have gone to have my hair permed about a month ago but my hairdresser wouldn't perm it as i have such thick hair it wouldn't have looked right or something like that but i suppose it was a blessing in disguise really. When i was a kid, about 8 or 9 years old, my mother permed my hair. I slept with a curly hair overnight, I was so happy!

Thanks for bringing one of my old discussions back out but I'm not sure what straight or curly hair being in season has to do with babies having hair at birth or not...

Thanks for sharing! I think a lot of babies shed some at first but then have it grow back even thicker.

Finally! A light haired baby born with a lot of hair. So far all I'd been hearing about were dark haired babies at birth. They sound beautiful, I'll have to check out your pictures.

My son had a full head of thick black hair when he was born. It all stood straight up, but if you combed it down, it came down past his nose, and completely covered his ears when he was born! He had his first haircut before he was even a week old! Now he's 15 months old, and his hair seems lighter everyday. It's already a bunch lighter than it is in the picture in my avatar that was taken in February. He never lost any except the little strip in the back from rubbing his head around when he was sleeping. It was like the opposite of the little old bald man, that just has a ring of hair. My son just had a ring of hair missing. :)

Oh my! I can't imagine what it would be like to have a newborn needing a haircut. My 3rd son had his first haircut when he was almost 19 months old. And it wasn't really because his hair was long, he has VERY curly hair and when winter/hat season came around it got so tangled all the time we decided we needed to cut it as short as we could. He practically got a "buzz cut" but it still managed to curl up! I've had that funny little ring with mine too! None of my children's hair got lighter as they got older but they all seem to get a little darker.

Both of my kids were born with a head full of hair. My daughter had more than my son. But they both had hair when they were born. Now my daughter never lost any of hers like some babies do. Where my son did. He lost almostt all of it, but like you said by the time he was a year old it was all back.

You're so lucky that your daughter didn't lose any of her hair. My oldest daughter was born with a little fuzz but just enough long pieces on top for those little Velcro barrettes. It was so cut BUT by the time she was 6 months old it had all fallen out and she had no hair at all! She stayed bald the longest of any of my children. Other than an occasional trim of her bangs she was almost 3 before her first hair cut (and even that wasn't intentional, she did it on her own!)

When I had my daughters, both of them were born with a head full of hair. They both still have a head full of hair, but now it's a headache for me when it's time to do their hair all pretty and stuff.

My oldest has long thick staight hair and it gets so hard to do things with sometimes but my other daughter has curly hair and that is even worse because it tangles so easily. But in the end they both look so beautiful that it's all worth it.

My oldest daughter was 10 weeks premature so she had just fuzz and it seemed to take forever for her to get hair, i think she was almost a year old when she finally did get something that you could call a head of hair. My second daughter was born with a head full of black hair and what was weird with her was that when she was about 9 months she started loosing it and was it was being replaced with her "permanant" hair and at the time we had a black dog and i kept yelling at the dog for laying on her hats and shirt and coats becasue they would all be covered in black hair.lol and my youngest my little boy he was bron with black hair to but more like in the medium range of how much hair her has.

They sound so cute! I'm glad your oldest is doing well. I suppose under the circumstances whether or not she was born with hair was the least of your concerns. Your poor little dog getting blamed for shedding! That must have been so funny when you realized it was really your daughter! Your son must be a little sweetie with two big sisters to follow around. Thanks for sharing.
