Im getting a lot of friends requests, but I must admit i turn most down. tHE REASON i DO THIS IS BECAUSE TO ACCEPT A FRIEND, I feel it is important that I have something in common with the person wanting to be on my list. Im a mature(?) married woman in the uk, what on earth do i have in common with teenage males? I would be interested to know what people want from a friends listing, ist it meant to be people you have something in common with?

Hi eskarena! I have more than 70 friends on my list now and during my first few weeks here I accept evryone who invites me as their friend. But now, like you, I am also in the process of deleting some of them especially those who have not been active for weeks now, those who only have 10 or less posts since they invited me until now, and those whom I don't really see respond to my discussions even ONCE. The next time I accept a friend request, I'll make sure that he's been an active member, and I regularly see discussions from him or responses to others' discussions.

maybe they just get bored, im not sure what it is all about but im still unsure what they think i have in common with them, particularly the teenage males, lol

Hello, eskarena, although i will accpet most of the friend request,I agree with your reasoning,i have to many of my friends have not been replying to me,of course,i do not mind, but i just find out that the discussions they post are quite different from mine and they may not have same interest with me. In choosing the interests of the friends, you can be sure at least you may be able to reply to some of their discussions which are of same interests with yours.

yes my friend, it just seems quite a random process of choosing who to request to add to your list, i think its a little strange really

At first I was accepting anyone who requested to be my friend. Now what I do is I go to there profile page and see what kind of discussions they have posted. I feel that there has to be something in common besides just being a mylot member. I am like you the teenage males it is almost like they have not really looked at my profile and seen whether there is some kind of interest there. Which a teenage male I can't see where I would have something in common. Also I get requests to accept someone as a friend and they never ever respond to my discussions. Not even once. I have started declining more than I accept because there just doesn't seem to be any real reason for the request.

exactly right. This is what i cant understand, what is the value to them of having me on their list?

We must have been on the same wave length, because I posted a discussion a week ago about whether to accept any and all or be dsicerning with friend requests. And while quite a number of people responding said they just happily accept all and delete some later, I find that there a surprising number who did as I do- I check the the profile, look at their discussions, if I haven't seen their name among responders to things I've responsded to or posted, and I've never read a discussion by them- I look, and if I find that they are posting interesting stuff, or have responded to interesting things, they are on. I don't really pay attention to gender, age, location- because the people i've enjoyed here run the gamut as far as those classifications go. If I stuck with an age group- I thin I'd be limiited to maybe three people, cut that again by gender and even then by nationality and I'd be all alone on my friend's list. LOL.

You have brought something to my attention that I hadn't really thought about. When I've received friend's requests, I've just automatically OK'd them and whilst some of them may be very young, I like to think what I've posted has helped them through their angst where I can see there's a problem that I've lived through myself or had a client that's managed it sucessfully. But some posts I feel have nothing in common with the way I think and live, so I don't respond. I don't think there's a limit to the number of friends we can have on here, but I expect I will go through the list and delete those that are obviously inactive.

Yes, I have notification on too and being a relative new-comer to the site, I am now beginning to get mails that I have nothing to say on either. But sometimes I find it a challenge to my writing/creative skills to say something.

Yes. I can say that I'll accept a friend requests with people with interests same as me so that we can share to each other. With me who loves interacting with different people, I wouldn't mind if many will invite me as their friends because I really like meeting new friends with different nationalities. I got to know their culture...

I've turned more down lately then average. Many seem to be the ones that are interested in nothing but "making money on the net" and those types pretty much waste my time bombarding me with personal messages about how wealthy they are from the internet. LOL I have a ton of friends listed now anyways that I can't keep up with! So perhaps I'm just pickier!

I agree. If someone requests me for a friend and I have never responded to any of their discussions or we have not replied to the same discussions, I will not accept. I've also noticed recently, that some who are requesting everyone to be on their friends list are also the ones who are copying discussions and presenting them as their own. Just another reason to be discerning.

Oh yeah. I got a friend request from someone that I had reported earlier for copying and pasting. It was actually comical that she would request me after i told her that I would be reporting her activity.

I don't mind friends from different cultures, and different backgrounds, but it is nice to be able to have something in common or it is difficult to respond to each other's discussions. Besides, if you accept every request you get, it is impossible to keep up with all of the discussions. What good does it do anyone to just add names to their list for no reason. I don't like to deny friend requests, but I also don't like to accept them if I can't find any type of connection to the person. That is why I wrote a discussion a while back asking why members wanted to be my friend. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/940254.aspx There were quite a variety of responses, and some were quite interesting.

yeah i think we ur r getting the ideal of friendship in ur list in a wrong perspective ..we dont make a friend from friend we make friends from stranges..so u ave just to arove them as your friend and get to know them that when you can say don like this friend and delet him/her ...coz of a reason.. but rite know u jst dont wan a friend.. that wat it seems..since u will never know them unles u accept them first u dont need to ave s/thing in common... you need to accept friendship fist to know if you got s/thing in common so can i be your friend now...mmh

Oh yes, I understand what you mean. I really don't accept friends based on their age but rather on their interests. A friend once told me to accept everyone who requested to be my friend. But I'm seriously starting to clean out my list. I have 23 pending friends and most of them are newbies. I don not mind about it but I like to check their activities and movements for a few days before making my decision.

LOL, imagine playing a spy for 23 pending friends. Not an easy task. I just don't feel like denying anyone but there's no sense in accepting anyone that doesn't have the same interests as yours.

I've had my share of friend request from people I can't relate to either...just not on the same wavelength--I don't mind if the person's younger at all, as long as there are common interests..I always check the profile pages to see what kind of subjects they started..if it looks okay to me, fine no problem...but then I come across a friend request and see their discussions and it's like, what the heck?? And it doesn't necessarily seem to be people that are newbies either looking for friends, but some "old timers" too --Of course I'll accept requests from people who have actually responded to my discussions..but those that haven't??

Different people have different reasons to add friends. I but teenagers get attracted by your seeing your posts tally. Its awesome. Probably they want to learn from your experiences. Probably they are aspired of your earnings because I do not see a reason teenagers adding a married woman. For that purpose you know what I mean, they would prefer teenage girls. There could be so many other reasons which I am not going to stress upon here. Well you need not have things in common to add friends. You have got to figure out intensions of the guys trying to add you. You could communicate through messages and ask questions and reasons for them adding you.

I am glad you understood my points and come up with encouraging words. Actually I am a newbie here myself, I have no idea about how to respond to different topics. I hope I shall improve with time. Already I have suffered badly, my ratings are not great, because I replied to some topic strangely, way I should not have, I regret. I have just read my post in respond to your topic. Sorry for lots of typos.

I have made up my mind that I would add those people who are coming up with nice topics and I am comfortable to respond to. I have decided not to respond to topics created by strangers. I say this because I made a mistake very first day on myLot. I do not want repeat that again.

I'm getting a lot of friends requests at the moment too and I refuse almost all of them. It's mostly people that haven't responded to my discussions and I've not responded to any of theirs so I don't see what benefit it would bring either them or me. Most of them seem to be in their late teens/early 20's and I just doubt we would have much in common. Having said that I do actually have a few people on my friends list that are in that age-range and I really like having them as friends and we do have things in common but we had already responded to each others discussions, etc first so knew a bit about each other anyway.

I try to not let age be a matter...but really it does matter. I find that most, not all, teens on here just lack the maturity that keeps me interested. But I try to be sure to give the person that requests fairness by still checking out what I do with others. I will look to see if the person has responded to any of my discussions. If not, why would that person even bother to request friends with me? I try to respond to all my my friends discussions...so I would like my friends to respond to what few I create also. Responding to my discussion shows that person is interested in my discussions....or not interested by the lack by how little is said. That brings me to another thing. If the person commonly puts one sentence as a response, I am not really interested. Because I put for a lot of effort in my discussions and responses, I would like the same in my friends. :) These are the things that I look at and find important...and I have actually made some pretty interesting friends here. :)

I get alot of friend requests sometimes also at Mylot but I try to never turn any of them down because I have alot of friends who are no longer active at Mylot. I do agree that I do not have anything in common with some of them. I know exactly where you are coming from on the teenager thing. I try to respond to all of my friends but some of the discussions, I just cannot relate to. I just hate to deny the requests though.
