Jas, I think the internet was one of the world's most influential inventions of the 20th century. Just think, in 1980 no one could have imagined being able to turn on machine and get the answer to almost any question within seconds.
Personally, I have taken full advantage of the internet for information gathering, work, shopping, fun and games, and now I've even started my own business online. (I won't push it here, but it's in my profile for those who are interested.)

The internet has made some quite positive changes in my life. I have made several new friends from all over the world and I've learned about their cultures and languages. I've done five courses, with exams online, and gathered a lot of knowledge from those. I have gained wisdom from sites on the internet, which is never a bad thing. I've written more poetry and have found that I have an ability for writing articles and to hold good discussions.
The only real down point that I can see with the Internet is that it takes up a lot of time which you should be spending doing other things, like housework, socialising etc.
