I am asking this just out of curosity. I know, one can not genrealise, but still, i want a figure. Actually, if you are in India, then, you can have a good living for a single man in $1000 easily. The reason for it is dollar has a high value here, and once those 1000 bucks gets tranffered into indian currenvy, they make an hansome figure! However, i am sure that if i ahve to live in america with that amount, i will be comming under pioverty line zone! So, i want to know what is a god monthly income for an amercian? 5000 bucks ? is that enough for a faily of fore? As I said, i know you can not genrealise, but still, i want some figures here!

In the Philippines a salary equivalent to $1000 per month is a lot too. In the US, the minimum wage is about $5.15 per hour. An 8 hour workday is equivalent to $41.20 multiplied by 20 working days a month equals $824.00. But thats the minimum wage, I guess twice or thrice that would make a comfortable living for an individual. Cheers! Happy Posting :)

I would say it depends on what part of the country you live in, some places have a higher cost of living then others. If you are sigle and educated, a good starting salary for you would be about $40K a year. If you are living in a lower cost area. For the higher areas like NYC, San francisco and others...I would say you would need $50k to be considered making a good living if single.

If you had a ffamily, then usually in the higher markets both parents work. 2 incomes between 40 - 56K is decent if you have a family.
