Why is it diffcult to get your first job!?

Hi....i just graduated from college and thus began my first step into the practical world to seek a job to suit my profile.But interestingly finding the job was not very simple as i initially thought it to be. and being a fresher it is proving to be a insurmountable task but still i am in high spirits. I would like to know why its that difficult to get your first job and ways of securing it, if anybody could help me on that.!!??
