What will you do in case you witness a person having a heart attack? Sometimes we witness our love ones or friends having these kind of situation. So how will you act when you encounter these situation?

First DO NOT PANIC but be quick on your action, Immediately call for help and ask someone to call your emergency medical response team in your area . Then check if the scene is safe, because we do not know there might be a danger that cause that person to have a heart attack. "Always remember your safety because you do not want to be a victim as well." Then if the scene is safe, approach the person who is having a heart attack then check the level of consciousness, if the person is still conscious put him/her in a comfortable position, ask for what happened and if he/she have medication for his/her illness. Then loosen his/her clothing to cool down the temperature if its hot, but when its cold warm that person to prevent hypothermia and assure him/her that he/she will be alright and do not leave that person until the professional help arrive, because those who are experiencing a chest pain or heart attack is thinking of their impending DOOM. But if the that person become unconscious put him/her lying flat on the back on a hard surface and do not put anything under his/her head. Then check for ABC's A=airway, B=breathing C=circulation. If that person do not have breathing and circulation then proceed to do CPR until the help arrives.

Hi Stryker and Jessemt, it is a pleasure seeing other EMT's on mylot. I didn't think there were any. I hope we will be able to help promote the importance of First Aid and CPR to our fellow people in this forum. Stay safe!

Hi howard! Indeed it is important to disseminate the need to know the basic life support and CPR for ordinary people to prevent a loss of life where they can be prevented. Nice idea my friend I'm with you. God bless.

The first thing to do is call 911 and render first aid to the person if your trained and able to assist him/her. If the person is conscious make the person as comfortable as possible, loosen any restricting clothing, ask the person if they have any Rx medication that's prescribed to them and help them take it. If the person is unconscious, get them on the floor (hard surface) and check the ABC's - Airway, Breathing and Circulation. If the airway is clear and there is no breathing and circulation then start CPR.

Hi howard! You're right and you hit the right answer to my discussion thanks. Have you been trained as a first responder or an EMT? I think people should know the basic of giving life support in such cases to prevent and minimize casualty.

Yes. I am an EMT, are you one also? I agree people should take at a minimum an advanced first aid course. The knowledge is something you will have for your entire life. For people who are not interested in a first aid course then please at least take a CPR class. You NEVER know when someone might be in need of this. It is an awful feeling to stand over someone you love and see them having a medical emergency and you don't know what to do to help them. Great post and thanks for the BR!

Yes I am also an EMT. And indeed people should at least be educated with the basic of life support especially performing CPR to at least be able to sustain the life of a person in an emergency situation. God bless!

Even though I haven't been an EMT for a few years and my cards are all expired, I feel confident that I still know what to do in an emergency. Its just something I don't think I will ever forget. My friends and family are still always coming to me for medical advice.

Tell you a true story. once I met a mad dog--it was barking to me.I was so afraid at that moment, then,I found something in my poket,it was a piece of banger sausage wust,I threw it on the ground ,the dog turned to it,at the same time,I quickly ran away! If we meet an emergency, the first and the most important thing is to be calm!!!That't my opinion

first we have to assure them that nothin will happen and that we are there to take care of them. at their back we should rush to make things without wasting time.

Maybe I will call for some one's help then call emergency hospital,or ambulance then try to apply some first aid with that person.
