Does angry, dark music ever make you feel better?

I was just wondering if anyone else feels better after listening to really dark, angry music. For instance, if I am feeling really stressed out about something listening to Marilyn Manson always makes me feel better. I don't know why that is, but I discovered years ago that the whole dark, angry, gothic music always seemed to put me into a better mood. I was just wondering if I was wierd because of that or if other people have the same thing happen to them.

I don't think it's weird. You know what I think is more weird, is when I was younger, I'd like to listen to this kind of music to put myself to sleep. My mom thought it was odd... I don't know why, but it use to make me feel sleepy when I listen to loud heavy metal music.

Oh I like Barry white too. My hubby likes to sing his song to me, I don't remember the title, but it goes like this, "my darling I, can't get enough of you my baby". How sweet huh.

Not weird at all. I used to go to sleep listening to Type O Negative. It was the deep sexy voice. It was so soothing and I would fall aleep listening to it. Just about anything with a deep sexy voice will put me to sleep. Barry White is good for that too. Of course I tend to have really vivid and hot dreams when I listen to Barry White to go to sleep. I think it's because his stuff is really romantic. And that voice. Darn, I wish he was still around to make more music. Anyways, I digress. Those gothic guys seems to have those deep sexy voices that just soothe you into sleep. Not weird at all.

some other stuff I like to listen to would be Darling Violetta, Portishead, Poe, Frou Frou and on the heavier side of tunes it'd be things like Disturbed, Korn, Godsmack, NIN, Breaking Benjamin etc etc etc.....but then there are times too when I like listening to some good ol' blues when I'm down like some B.B King, Etta James, Nina Simone and so on

I listen to the heavy and gothic stuff if I am angry or in a bad mood. If I am feeling a little down or depressed I love to listen to Nina Simone (LOVE HER) or Billie Holiday. I love Etta James too. I really like a bit of everything. It just depends on my mood. I even like some of that totally pop princess stuff too. But don't tell anyone, they may think I like Jessica Simpson too! Which I don't. But her sister Ashley is kinda good and way hot.

it isntonly the music, the lyrics are too real and we are able to relate to them.when we feel srustrated some songs say exactly what we feel.this makes us able to relate to the situation and makes us feel good.the music too is really good which can put us in better moods.

Could be that sometimes your negative energy vibes get carried away from you by the music. I don't know. Sometimes I get so angry that I will listen to really sad songs for the sole purpose of making myself cry. Then I will have a really good crying jag and then when I am done, I feel cleansed and so much better. I guess just listening to someone else sing about the same issues I am dealing with helps me feel not so alone.

No,dark music doesn't make me feel better but I don't think it makes you weird because it makes you feel better. To each his own. Everyone has his or her own way of destressing as I call it.

This is so true. It also depends on who has stressed me out. If it was my mother, I bake. I will bake pies, cakes, brownies, cookies, etc. I will just bake and bake until there is nothing left to bake. Then I either give it all away or toss it. If it is my husband that stresses me out, I will clean. I will do that "granny" type of cleaning where you wash the walls and sweep the ceilings and stuff. I will clean until I am falling down from weariness. Of course my house will look like my granny lives there and that is always a good thing. So, you are right about everyone having their own way of destressing. And sometimes we have different ways of destressing for different forms of stress.

Yes, I listen to Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Smashing Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson and so on. I do feel better when I feel dark or angry or upset about something. I listen to this music and I feel better and it does put me in a much different and better mood.

I don't listen to anything when I am angry. I usually start cleaning as I mutter to myself. I do listen to dark, sad songs when I am depressed. It doesn't make me feel better so much as I seem to relate to the words more. I like to listen to songs that have words to describe how I feel at that moment.

Yeah, I clean if my husband has stressed me out. I guess maybe that comes from wathing my mother clean any time she and my father would fight. I listen to really sad songs sometimes just to make myself cry. I sometimes just really need a good cry and the sadder song, the better to take care of that need. You know what I mean? How some days everything seems to be going wrong and you just have this overwhelming desire to just cry but nothing really is bad enough to cry over. That is when I put on sad sad songs and cry. Like listening to Danny Boy and some other old Irish songs. They are just so sad.

The only angry music I really listen to is Eminem. But I know exactly what you are saying, it does make me feel better. I don't know why either but I could assume it's because in a way you're getting your feelings out through the song, and maybe you reazlie that you are not alone in whatever you are feeling, because the artist can relate to what you are going through. These are just my thoughts lol; I don't know if they mean anything.

Yeah. You are getting your feelings out. I don't listen to Eminem so I didn't know he had anything angry to listen to. I think the only thing I have ever heard from Eminem is stuff from that movie he was in. What was it called? I don't remember. Oh well.

I can't really say if dark music makes me feel better or worse.. I normally listen to it when I feel sad, wrecked, ruined, depressed, angry, etc lol.. Usually no matter what music I listen to, or not listen to anything at all, the emotion will pass anyway. Given time. :P

I definitely have a deep appreciation for the therapeutic aspects of angry, dark music. Specifically, I listen to angry, dark music when I'm angry, depressed, sad, frustrated or simply struggling to express something deep inside. A prime example of this for me is Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt," a song that inevitably helps me express dark emotions. Once I am able to feel and express the emotions, quite often the depression lifts. Manson's "Tainted Love" has been a great song for me during relationship issues, and even Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot" (I think that's the actual name) really helps me out when I'm royally ticked off. I think the biggest reason it works is that as a society we often frown on expressing the darkness within...this music makes it safe to do so.

I agree with you about NIN's Hurt. I love that song and I really love Johnny Cash's version of it. Have you heard it? It makes it seem like a completely different song. I am not too fond of Manson's version of Tainted Love, but then I still remember Flock of Seagulls singing it. Ok, so I am telling my age here. Anyways. I love Filter's Nice Shot. When I really need to let some steam off I put on my Marilyn Manson CDs or Tool. They just really help me to get past my anger, depression, whatever dark mood I am in. It is so nice to know that other people do this too. Thanks.

I never feel like smacking anyone when I listen to the music. I do, however, feel like smacking them BEFORE I listen to the music. :)
