Losing weight post-pregnancy

I just gave birth to my son 6 weeks ago and am anxiously awaiting the opportunity to slim down. While I know I will lose some weight from breast feeding, I am looking for other things I can do also. I read somewhere that no matter what I do, I can never lose that extra skin on my belly, which looks like a pouch. Is this true? Any advice on what will work? I'm not big on diet foods and refuse to give up certain things, but I am willing to try just about anything else.
