Does your cat come to you when you call her/him?

We all know that dogs can be easily trained to coem when called but it's rarer with cats. However, my cat started coming to me when i called her but only in the kitchen as obviously she twigged that i might be calling her for food. Now though she's started coming to me sometimes when i call her even if i'm not in the kithcen and not even downstairs. She very definately recognises her name, and it's just a matter of pitching my voice right so that it sounds persuasive enough for her to come. Of course she doesn't always come since she definately has a mind of her own! So what about your cat?

Yes she does :) she is really beautiful. she always comes when she hears our voices, even when we don't call her name. I keep her indoor so that she is safe and warm with us.

Our cat is an indoor cat too. It's too dangerous for her to be outside and she has a nice big house to play in. She's sat on a chair next to me curled up right now, as per usual!

what a lucky cat of yours. our house is not that big, but since we don't have kids then we can pay more attention to her and keep the house safe for her to play. she is also B&W like your cat. aren't they cute?

My cats are pretty intelligent..they don't ALWAYS come when I call them--have two..but they will come to me quite often when I do call them--oh yes, cats do have minds of their own.

Our cat definitely recognizes her name, and she'll come when I call her usually if we're in the same room. If she's in another part of the house though, she usually just stays put. She's a little lazy, hehe.

mine do.they respond to nicknames also. of course if you yell "food" you'll get them all at once,but..they will come individually as long as they weren't taking a nap when you called them.

I use to have a cat that would come when I would call her name. She was very friendly and loved any attention. The cat I have now, is mean..lol The only time he comes when called by his name is if I am in the kitchen getting his food out. Now we can be in the same room and I can call his name and he will look up at me, but won't come to me. He is just stubborn and most certainly has a mind of his own, and always just does his own thing...maybe that is why he gets into so much trouble..he is ornery.

oh yes, my cat do come when called. she has this trait of nuzzling next to you when feeling sad. sort of like assurance that she has someone who'll take care of her. she would always sleep on my bed right between my legs so sometimes its hard to just roll around when i feel she's sleeping. she can understand also if youre mad, like when she do the scratching using the furniture, once whe would hear me shout her name sh would stop and would come as if asking for apology.

welcome to mylot, kennethcole. happy mylotting. you have such a nice cat there. mine is not the beautiful one. it is just an alleycat which decided to stay on with us. we had been enjoying its company because, it has been so loyal to us and very cuddly, too.

Both my cats come when I call them, they are very clever if I'm in the garden and call them they'll come from wherever they were hiding and sit with me. They also know the sound of our car so whenever we arrive home they will appear by the car or waiting for us on the path to the house!!

Mabel always stops what she is doing and looks at me when I call her and we are near to the same area. When she is not in the room with me she will come running when she hears her name. Or, if I say "kitty kitty kitty" or if I call the dogs....DOGS, HERE GIRLS - or if I tell the dogs it is time for a walk, she will line up at the door with them. She takes the walk with us, and while I stand still during the walk to gaze at the stars for a moment or two she will weave her body around, against, under - the dogs' faces and legs purring so loudly. I read a post when I first joined mylot that suggested polydactyl cats are more intelligent, I do not know if that is true, but she is the brightest cat we ever had - and a lot more amiable as well.

Like you whenever i call his name my cat would look at me and see if ever i would give him food or what. He would make some noise whenever he is there outside our door telling he wants to come in and if ever he is inside he would directly go to the kitchen to look for food. After eating he would again go outside and play with other cats.

Our cats will come to us if we call them. The both know their names pretty well but there have been a few times when they don't want to come and we have to resort to bribing them by shaking the cat treats at them.

cats mostly come to you when you call them when they are hungry or want something of their interests.

Henry - The cat who thinks he is a dog!
Yes - all my come when I call them - unless they have something more interesting to do at the time of course! LOL! Tou know what cats are like! They certainly all recognise my voice, and if I go out to the back door and call, they usually all come trotting in very quickly! Henry is the most obediant. In fact the neighbours laugh at him, because they say he is more like a dog than a cat! He goes over to the woods nearby a lot, but if I go over there and whistle, he always comes running........... and sometimes he will follow me to the local shops, walking right at my heel, and then wait outsde the shop til I come out so he can walk back with me.

yes, our cat comes to us when we call his name. normally, it not just one but, something like three or more times before he hears and complies. this is a cat which is too cuddly. he will immediately find his place in anyone's lap whom he observes to get seated comfortably enough for him to climb up to and rest therein.

Lol, our cat is weird. If I have an afternoon nap, my partner will come to wake me. My cat will sit in the doorway and wait for both of us to be on the bed before she comes in and jumps up. We're not too sure why. She will jump up onto the sofa for a fuss from both of us if my partner calls her to, but not for me. However, she prefers attention from me. She knows her name and will come running if she knows she's getting fed, but other times it has to be on her terms lol.

All 3 of my cats come running to me if they even hear my voice but especially if I call them. I have such loveable cats. There is only one that seems to hesitate but will come running when she sees the other ones coming to me. I love your avatar. What a cute cat. Reminds me of my mom's cat Sylvester. I think all cats have a mind of their own. :)
