Did you ever march in a band?

I marched in a band in Jr. High and High School, because you could substitute it for PE and I did not want to have to dress out. I played flute. We had our annual All Schools' Day Parade, yesterday, in McPherson, to honor various aspects of education and to celebrate graduates. It is not your parent's marching band anymore. We joke that this school is just too cool, with their shades and berets. LOL

I marched in my high school band, I played flute until I was a junior and then I switched to French Horn. Ihave gone back and seen some of my high school's bands these days and they are nothing like what I experienced.

I did! I was a majorette in elementary. I enjoyed it so much. And I loved the uniform as well. I was so proud to be in the band and specially proud that people enjoy our exhibitions.
But when I got to high school I got tired so I picked up a xylophone and marched for 2 years. Afterwards I passed it on to my sister.

I have never marched in a band. I have never even played in a band. I had enough trouble with walking and chewing gum when I was younger. You might say I was very uncoordinated. You would be right if you did. I think it all started when I grew 8 inches taller in the course of one school year. I think you are absolutely right. They really do look cool. Does anyone else have a comment?

I have never been in a band. I cant even read music. I always wanted to learn to play the paino but never did. Both my daughters were in band in Jr High and High school. I was so proud of them. I made sure that they had piano lessons also. So they lived out my dream of playing.

I have lived a few dreams through my kids, and in some ways they have gone beyond my dreams. I have two kids that make me very proud. They are different from each other, but each was a precious gift to me.

Check out response #9, my daughter. She does live out a lot of my dreams. I would like to see her contributing to some of the writing sites. She is really awesome, and I am prejudiced.

I belonged to a local fife and Drum band when I was in highschool. We played in several Santa Clause parades and thanksgiving day parades every year...Traveling around to do this. It was fun and we also made some money doing it!

Sounds like fun, but I never did. I was on a float in the Rose Parade though. It was fun, but very cold.

No, we didn't have bands for students to participate in, nor did we have marching girls. I come from an indutrial town up north, & the only band we ever saw was the Salvation Army Band.
There would have been a lot more in the way of bands in the city, although I don't think marching girls were ever part of the culture here.
Other Aussies can correct me if I'm wrong.
I imagine students can join bands, but mostly it would be done privately, not through schools.

yes, I was on the flag line! For two years, I marched with my clarinet in Junior High School, and then when I hit the 9th grade, I tried out for the flag line, learned to twirl that flag, and I was hooked. I did that all the way through high school and my first year of college.

Yes, I played lire. At first it was not comfortable, I was shy then. When I saw my family watching and proud, it made me a little confident. It was fun!
