Strange habit of my computer

I use a Celeron processor and am informed that it can't bear overheating. I doubted it as my computer doesn't shut down so often..
But recently I got stuck in a new problem. Can't say why my computer formed this habit. Whenever I started it, it loaded fine but as soon as loading was done an automatic process of shutting down(properly) and restarting started. All I could manage to do was to shut down it permanently, that if I acted quick and took the control in my hand.
Unfortunately I had to go to some other place that time. When I returned, it was all fine. What would have caused this problem?
...now my computer is not letting me undo the new setting changes. Strange!!

Well Celerons are crappy processors, but it doesn't sound like that is your problem. It sounds like your log on settings in your user account has been screwed up somehow. Without looking at your computer I can't tell you how to fix it. The best I can say is that if this problem continues you should just backup your files and reinstall windows.

Why not? What's preventing you from reinstalling? Do you have the system restore disks that came with your computer? If you lost your Windows XP CD you can download an iso of it using a torrent. Then you can reinstall windows using the CD key written on the label on the back of your computer so it will be legit.

The restart syndrome is a symptom and not the problem itself. There was obviously a real problem or conflict present at the time, which could have been related to overheating.
If the system overheats greatly the computer will automatically shut down, but of course as soon as it shuts down the problem cannot be detected so Windows will start to load again. As soon as Windows has loaded the problem is detected and the computer shuts down again, so you end up with a rapid cycle of rebooting.
Once the computer has been left off for a while it naturally cools down, so now it will boot up fine. You need to find the problem in order to stop this occurring again.

My pc has got really very hot-tempered. I need to cool it down which is not easy due to the temperature here. Today I touched it and it was so hot in spite of being off!! And what next... it had already been crashed when I tried to start it.

a ghost must have taken over your computer and that was caused by shutting down byitself upon booting...and maybe that button or something you've done must have scared the ghost to go away...and now your computer is ok that's the only logical explanation thatis if you believe in ghow....duh

it could be a problem with the OS which caused some serious errors & did a restart process all by itself. This mostly happens in OS that are pirated version & don't have a Valid Key. If you can then its better to purchase Win XP that comes bundled with SP2 else you can download from internet if you have faster connection.
Goto the task manager & check the processes running & see which application or process is clocking High CPU usage & end that process. See if you can re-install the associated program of that process. also did you by any chance over clock your Processor to get high speeds? if you do it then there is every chance of the processor over heating & sometimes can even cause a burnout.
Also if you have RAM of lower capacity try to increase the capacity of RAM to atleast 1GB so that your system wont keep trying access the data from the HDD everytime you access any application.

by pressing f8 constantly just after pressing the on button on your computer, it will bring up a little menu after a while, select safe mode, this will take quite some time to boot up but is worth the time, and once you have logged in, only the neccesary processes will be running, if you have windows xp then simply run system restore or have a look in your startup folder in the start menu. it could be as simple as someone leaving a batch file in your startup menu which restarts your computer. by running in safe mode this should not run. hope this helps

It may due some files of Os being corrupt.Or it may be due to any unwanted program running at the back door.Try to restore ur Pc's old proper working configuration or If have back up then u should uninstall all the programs and then reinstall the Windows.

Sometimes when you install certain programs they reconfigure your primary settings. This can make your computer act up. Sometimes it is better to so a complete scan for viruses, spyware, adware malware in general. If nothing shows up, the try uninstalling each new program that you have installed up until you noticed the problem. The reason that it worked fine afterward could be that an application lasted eg 15days and then ran out thus removing the problem. If all else fails and the problems get to be really bad the best thing to do is backup all your date onto a external device and format your computer. As this may also help with programs that have an auto uninstall that sometimes do not uninstall completely or change your primary system when uninstalled leave gaps. I hope everything works out

i think its due to some virous which affect your operating system. If its persist again you can go to microsoft site and consult with them. they will always help you. Did you check your processor and memory.Due to that also this problem will come. Any way you first check weather any virous entered in your system or not.

i think that your computer restarted because it was over heated, i think that you shpould keep you computer cool so that it doesn't restart automatically. there is also a possibilty that your log on settings were disturbed

I too had this problem once. I took the help of an expert. All he did was to clean the memory card with a brush and the problem was gone. I was so ashamed of myself....
