Subtle competition among best friends

When me and my best friends get together, we always talk about new things, new accomplishments, new gadgets, and etc. I could almost feel a very subtle form of competition among ourselves. Not that I am envious of my friends' accomplishments. It's just that sometimes I tend to make them my yardstick. Is this totally wrong?
