I love this show! I do not subscribe to television but own one just to watch movies and programs of choice. Just recently I watched all 5 seasons on DVD's I checked out of the library. I had not seen them in years and watching them some 30 years later they still held their same appeal to me. The values instilled are ageless and I'd sure like to see a comeback!
As for my favorite character...hummm...that's a toughy as they all had their charm...but I have to say Laura...she always seemed to save the day with her quick wit and thinking.
Oh, I also found "The Little House Cookbook...Frontier Foods from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Classic Stories" by Barbara M. Walker. It includes things such as, Fried Apples and Onions, Long Winter Bread, Buffalo Fish and Parched Corn...just to name a few. Very interesting and entertaining 225 pages!

I too have a t.v. for video watching! I loved watching "Little House" and the "Waltons".Living the good wholesome country life. I like most all the characters. My favorite is Mrs. Oleson for funny and Pa Ingalls for support of his family but always able to tell a joke and have fun with them, and I guess Ma Ingalls was the glue that held them all together. Even mean old Nellie kept the show interesting!

Yes! The information and histories were priceless to me! I love that era...And yes, I tried the parched corn...very bland...but I did like the apples and onions as this is how I usually make pork roast...with apples or applesauce and onions...so I did like it, but in the future if I were to make them again...I would "kick it up a notch". lol!

My favorite was Laura she had the cutest pigtails and she became a teacher. She was sweet and kind girl everyone liked her. Excep the uppity girl whose mother owned the store.

I agree with Flotowoman. Laura. The quick wit and problem solving capabilities. Makes me hungry when she talks about the recipes, but, yeah, Would kick it up a notch, or two..I love a lot of pepper in my roast......PEACE

Mrs. Olsen is my favorite character on little house because she added so much humor to the series. Of course she is disliked by other characters and even fans, but a lot of laughs would be missing without her.
She was quite good when it came to fainting. Like when Mr. Olsen turned up quite alive after she was sure he had been killed by "Black Bart" in the episode when he was kidnapped by the inept criminals.
Another episode was downright moving when a minister came to look into her demanding that the reverend be removed from serving. The minister who came was the man who had broken off his engagement to her years earlier. We learned a lot about why Mrs. Olsen acted the way she did in that episode, and had a bit more sympathy for her.

My favorite character is without a doubt "PA" or "Charles Ingalls". Not only because of the exquisite talent and looks of Michael Landon. But also because of the person he portrayed. Charles Ingalls was and is to me the epiphany of "husband" and "Father". As a child I would watch LHOP and wish so badly that I was part of that family.

Mine was definitely Laura. I was always a huge Little House fan and pretty much grew up with them... Laura was only slightly younger than I was and I just felt like I had such a connection with her!
I used to dream of going back in time and being in their family... one year, my mom even bought me a bonnet to wear at a Centennial parade for our town and I felt just like an Ingalls girl! lol!

I suppose you're talking about the television show rather than the books.
I would have to say that my favorite character would have to ultimately be Nellie Oleson. I know, I know, she was a complete brat. I also know that she was a girl that never really existed, much like Albert, but she had a basis in fact. Her character was a composite of several girls that Laura didn't care for from her childhood. None of them were named Oleson, nor Nellie, but there were incidences and character traits that were had by several people.
On the tv show, I loved that Nellie came to rights in the end. When she met Percival, everything changed and she evolved for the want of love. That, to me, was just awesome. She ended up being a decent girl, deep down inside, even though, in the books, Nellie Oleson ended up moving back to New York state, never to be heard from again.

Don't know per say if I have a favorite character just love the show. I have all of the best series on vcr tapes and could watch them over and over again. Would love to have it on tev so could watch from time to time. It is just so down to earth on shows. Shows life as being hard and not easy and work for a living.

i would say mine would be Laura. She is spunky, outspoken and a little onery. It sort of reminds me of a friend of mine and we were always together when we were younger and I sure miss those days.
I think that if there were more shows like this on television today, the world would be a much nicer place.

Well, this is an old discussion, but a good subject. I always liked Mary on that show, especially when she was struggling with her blindness.
